First time Yorkie owner 1 Attachment(s) Hi everyone....first time yorkie owner here. My little girl was born 2/1....I'm so excited...can't wait until she's old enough to come home!!! I've been researching yorkies for a year....I have experience with small dogs (chihuahuas and miniature pinschers), but I am clueless when it comes to grooming, top knots, puppy pads, etc...etc....etc.... lol. Please give me any advice you wish someone gave you when you first purchased your first yorkie. :) |
I am new too and the best thing I did was do a search on all my questions. Every question I had...I found a thread. I researched dog food, crate training, clicker training, harness, shampoo, brushes...on an on. There is a wealth of info on here. The search link is on the blue bar with User CP, FAQ, Members List, etc. I couldn't believe how helpful it was. Goodluck and Congrats! :) |
Welcome to YT! The ladies on here now EVERYTHING about yorkies. I've been a yorkie owner for exactly 1 week, and they have given me invaluable advice on taking the best care of my new furbaby!! Ask them, they are the "Yorkie Jedi Masters!" LOL |
hi there and welcome, you have come to a great site. i learned so much here you would not believe... have fun |

Welcome to YT . . . this site is much better than reading all about the breed as there are lots of real-life experiences on this site. You came to the right place. |

I feel silly asking this question already (ESPECIALLY since it's so far in advance), but at what age should she get her first haircut? And when I first take my pup to get her first haircut, what kind of cut do you recommend? I've seen several of the young pups on here (which are all gorgeous!!!), but I'm not familiar with the grooming styles. Also....I'm located in the Central/South Jersey area if anyone can recommend a great groomer (my best friend has a silky terrier and Petco TOTALLY made him look like a Chinese Crested, lol.). :animal-sm |
my first yorkie Hello, we just got our baby and everything is going great with him, he had his second round of shots, he is very active and playfull. I just was wondering when should i start with teeth and ear hygiene? (he is 12 weeks), his ears are clean, but i just want to know for the future, any special ear cleaning product? |
Titan was born on 4-1. :D It is nice to see so many "new" puppy owners here. We get to bring him home in a week or so. I went to visit him today and spent almost 2 hours! I planned only 20 minutes. I to look for thread for similar questions and boy are there a ton! I am enjoying YT a little to much I think. *blush* |

Thanks for the great advice.....I was just on dogster looking at Gucci, she's adorable!! I guess that the hair style you have her in the pictures are considered a puppy cut? I saw another post on here with a different version of a puppy cut...its was shaved down and only had long hair on the pup's head. Am I missing something with the whole 'puppy cut' definitions? lol...I'm so confused. :) |

Ty for the nice comments regarding my little girl. I love her so much. |
Hi, I'm a new yorkie owner too, I had my dog for an week now and its like having a new born baby. Well its a girl and her name is Summer :aimeeyork. First I would tell you that its hard because when its time to sleep she wants to cry and or play and when its time to use the bathroom she pee and the pad but do the other thing on the floor :thumbdown and I really dont know what to do, then when I go to work she get put in the kitchen with her bed and crate and toys but cries when we leave. What i'm i suppose to do? She's very good and pretty but you have to watch her every move so she wont use the bathroom on the floor. I also put music on for her while im at work but im not sure if that helps. Do anyone have any idea on how to keep the puppy from crying when we leave and doing the #2 on the floor. Thanks |
