| Dog food suggestions please We lost my dear husband to cancer in 2018. He and Laddy were best buds. Since his passing Laddy has went from 3.8 lbs to 6 lbs. He is as round as he is tall. He just turned 13 and I realize the excess weight is not good for him. I still feed the same amounts but he doesn't play and run like he did before my husband passed. I try but he just doesn't seem to want to. He doesn't jump on furniture (hasn't since that day) which I understand wasn't good for him but could never stop him from doing. Does anyone have an idea for a good dog food for his age and will help with the overweight issue?

| If you look down the threads in this forum a short way, you’ll see a thread titled “Weight Gain” by liligidget. Someone on that thread recommended a food for her little dog with a weight issue. I’m sorry for the loss of your husband. A terrible loss for all of you. My Jax absolutely loves to run and play with my husband, and I’m sure he would be the same as your Laddy if he lost his favorite playmate. Jax will play with me but I’m a poor substitute at best. (On the other hand, Jax will sit on my lap. He won’t sit on my husband’s lap, because daddy = playtime.) |

| I would just feed less. If he has less activity, he doesn't need as much food. What are you currently feeding? As long as it's not super high in fat or calories, just lessen the amount. I am so sorry for your loss.

YT 2000 Club Member | Dog So sorry for the passing of your dear husband. I feed my senior dogs Fromm Reduced Activity and Senior Gold. It has23% protein and 11% fat. They also eat the Fromm wet turkey and pumpkin pate. They love it. Stools are formed. No problems and Fromm is a good quality dog food! I order it from a family owned pet store . |

| Gidget turned 5 in January and she seems to be gaining more weight. I just ordered Hill's Science Diet for Perfect Weight. It gives the amount per day for the weight she should weigh. Once she starts on it, no more treats and no more dentastix. The only thing extra will be 3 or 4 frozen green bean bites. Will also take her for more walks (weather permitting) during the day. Will keep posting as I see results. |
