| Siblings dealing after one passes So I’m wondering what things your dogs have done if one of their siblings passed away? Callie was the only one in my bedroom due to needing to have full access to the house for pottying and water. Well I moved Penny and Ollie down to my bedroom. They both still sleep in crates because they enjoy them and get weird with out them. Well I thought Ollie’s crate was to small so I got one the same size as Penny’s and gave her the new one and put Ollie in hers. Well I didn’t think of not washing the bedding so the change would be easier and I washed the bedding. So it was a lot of change for all of them. Well Ollie doesn’t have a UTI but is peeing all over the house. I bathed them today and noticed Penny is shedding enough to leave a decent size hair ball in the drain which makes me think she is stressed because Callie would shed when she was stressed. Joey is just kind of depressed. I’m trying to give everyone individual time and we have fun going over their tricks but I guess I just have to give everything time?

| Unfortunately, I have had to deal with this situation more than a few times over my many years of living in a multi-animal family household. Each time was unique, as were the dynamics between the little ones affected. Believe it or not, one of the toughest times for readjustment was when we lost our sweet calico cat who lived in the finished basement due to my husband's allergies. Both my yorkies would scratch on the basement door and quietly whine for weeks after she passed. They were used to having time together, and would race down the stairs to find her most every day. When we lost one of our yorkies at our home in New York, we thought that his older brother understood that he was gone...however, when we returned to our Florida home a month later, he ran to the back lanai door and tugged at the leash which his brother had used. Then he spent time searching and sniffing in every room. It broke my heart. When we lost Beau earlier this year, he had been failing for quite some time. Gus and Ty would spend time sniffing and nudging him, and lying beside him in the large group bed. I know that they sensed that he was frail and would be leaving soon. When we returned from that last vet visit, I left his bed and blanket on the floor of our family room for about a week. They would visit it for an occasional sniff, but when they stopped going over we quietly put it away. Likewise, we left the water dish they shared in place, but slowly removed his food dish, replacing it with a second water dish. I know that they still miss him at times...Gus will still bring over one of Beau's toys at playtime once in awhile; but he merely drops it at our feet, then moves on to play with his own. Just like you, your pack will have to make their own adjustments, and each of them will be different in how they react. Thank goodness they have you! Your love, attention and sensitivity will help them along the way. (((hugs)))

As far as Penny and fireworks, don't worry that far in advance. Yes, she may have a more dramatic reaction than ever, but she might just surprise you and have a manageable level of stress only for the limited event. Remember...you know that they read our emotions. Try to give vibes of "everything is ok here", and their love and trust for you might just prevail!

| They will figure it out, not every pack has to have a leader. I wouldn't worry about it.

Or can they go to a local park for a walk where it's not paved? Again, sorry for your loss and yes you're definately right it will take time. But exercise is good too and group activity to get the pack together filled with fun and love!!! I know you can do it!!! Last edited by Yorktowny; 07-04-2020 at 03:33 PM. | |

| When Chibi passed Molli was depressed for a long time. I think it was hard because I was depressed too and I didn’t make an effort to try to get her to come around as much as I probably should have. She gained 2 pounds, stopped wanting to go outside and would just sleep all day. Finally now, over a year later she is getting to herself again. I put her in a diet and I try and take her for a walk or at least play with her every day. It’s a hard thing to go through.

| So Joey is eating better now but his separation anxiety is really bad. If I leave even to go to the mailbox he is screaming and crying. If I go into a room without him and shut the door he cries. He isn’t left alone if I leave, my grandmother is with him but he still cries almost the whole time.
