Trump signs federal ban on animal cruelty President Trump on Monday signed the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act, a new federal ban on animal cruelty. The law will outlaw purposeful crushing, burning, drowning, suffocation, impalement or other violence causing “serious bodily injury” to animals. Violations could result in a fine and up to seven years’ imprisonment. The act passed the House and Senate with bipartisan support earlier this year. It has been cheered by animal-welfare groups and also by members of law enforcement who want to “stop animal abusers” before they hurt animals or people again. |
It's about time we got some support for helpless animals from heartless people. |
That's good news! |
Love him or hate him this was a great thing! |

Been too sad over Tibbe to even look at the Yorkie forum or anything to do with dogs until today just wanted to check in briefly to see if I could take it. Truly longing for a connection to dogs for a while but too scared to even try to look fearing it would make me very, very sad again. Somehow the first thread I saw was this one and got so pumped, so encouraged that for the first time I'm truly happy for animals everywhere and those that love them! Just had to sign in and comment my joy over it! Dogs, horses and cats, even mice and birds, little, big or whatever, everywhere can rejoice. As of 5 days ago, it's a Federal crime to deliberately hurt an animal!!!!! Animal sadists everywhere now face a law with Federal teeth in it! Pact Act as it's called includes any depiction of animal cruelty, including dog fighting, and the making and sharing of videos and images! All that is now a Federal CRIME! Amazing! Just amazing. Was sickened to read that animal crushing videos seem popular as I was reading the news coverage, if anyone can believe that. Cannot even imagine how this kind of sickest depravity was getting by with basically a slap on the wrist until this bill! Can you imagine?!? Thank goodness deliberate animal cruelty as well as the image depiction of it is finally a Federal crime! I know we all applaud all those involved in getting this law imagined, written up, amended and finally all the way to the U.S. Congress and the votes, and a Presidential signature that made it Federal LAW! Thank God for every single one of those engaged in this heroic endeavor and those that passed it! Glorious days! Now, cops everywhere can pursue those most vicious of barbarians with renewed enthusiasm, knowing those they catch will face real Federal justice for the heinous and cruel acts to all those pitiful, innocent animals they violently brutalize, apparently many of them for the "fun" of it, even to sharing pictures of it all. Makes you sick. But now, Uncle Sam WANTS YOU for Federal prosecution for it! Hooray!!! Cannot believe violent animal cruelty of this kind finally comes under Federal jurisdiction! Truly a day to celebrate, albeit belatedly on my part! Thanks, Joan, for the posting of the BESTEST THREAD I've seen in a long, long time! Big smiles here and no small amount of tears of joy. :) |
We miss you Jeanie big, big (((hugs))):love: |

There's still much to do, more to work hard for in prosecuting animal hoarders and puppy mill owners, pet shop sellers AND buyers(I can hope), shed/stall-raised factory-farmed animals, banning or at least phasing out zoos, petting zoos, where animals are kept tethered or penned up against their free nature and subjected to fear from hoards of little kids descending on them, inhumane treatment prior to slaughter for food livestock, etc. We've got to do better and fight for many, many more protections and much stronger laws for real prosecution/sentences for heartless offenders but this Pact Act is a start. And since I've not watched or read any news much these past few months, I might not have even heard of this Act anytime soon w/out your great thread. Thanks again for posting it. |

Oh boy. I personally wouldn't have made this thread, purely from fear of trouble. There are STRONG feelings in both directions about him. The great thing is I can come here and not worry about POLITICS lol. But, yes, it's good. |
Chinese proverb? It goes something like this: a 1000 mile journey begins with a single step. Let us hope we can strike a good balance. |

To me, this thread is about protecting animals and I am so happy with whatever President might have signed it into law. And great props to those who generated the bill, pushed it all the way through it to his desk! To me this thread is actually about we doglovers celebrating as a doglovers' forum the fact that sadists among us could finally, actually be prosecuted by a Federal law for their deliberate cruelty to helpless creatures. I'd say there's very little politics involved, only trying to help those little things that we humans all too often abuse, maim/cripple and kill, however painfully or quickly. We truly steer clear of politics here and keep all our thoughts here on animals and those that love them. So no need to worry we'll go political on you or each other here. All of us, too, want to escape to this forum to put the world behind when we can and touch base with others who love dogs and Yorkies! This is a great place to talk all things dogs - and occasionally cats and whatever other animals we love dearly, interact with or have concerns about. :) |

LOL, this is not a political thread, what's wrong with you. We now have a law in place that protects all animals from being abused by fine or imprisonment gezzzzzz Will  |
Hmmmm, wonder if his sons who like to kill animals will get locked up? |
I am very happy with the new law passed by our president, it is sickening to see animals abused |
