My adopted rescue Yorkie is huge! (22lb) Hey guys, I just adopted a rescue dog. He's a wonderful Yorkshire Terrier. Strange thing is, firstly, he weighs a whopping 22 lb. Second thing is, he's a bit long for a Yorkie! Seems almost like he was cross-bred with a sausage dog! That said, I have his microchip, and his full pedigree papers, and they all match up. He's KC registered and his pedigree papers go back 3 generations. What's up with this, does anyone know? Don't get me wrong, I don't love him any less at all, just worried that this may cause increased chances for health problems for him, and if there's anything I should look out for. |
Welcome to YT. My now passed girl was 17 pounds, no health due to her size, she passed at 17 years old. I would like to thank you for rescuing. I have a rescue that weighs 12 pounds. All my passed girls were large, 1 was 9 pounds, 2 were 13 and the last one was 17. I wouldn't worry about his weight as long as he is not over weight from being over feed. His body is longer to fit his size. My 17 pound girl had a longer body, but, it carried her weight, she was a slim, sleek beautiful girl. |
Yorkie were bigger originally and were bred down so they call these throw backs. I have an 18 pounder. |
...and here in YT there is a Teapot club for Yorkies that are a little bit more that 7 Lbs...LOL My Runty weights 12 and 1/2 Lbs. ....He is super Hyper/playful....so I guess he would weight more if he wasn't moving all the time.... LOL :D |
