Getting a second Yorkie
 

I'm looking to get a companion for my 5 yr old male yorkie. I got him from a pet store when he was about 8 weeks old. He is a true joy, very well behaved, amazing personality, and no health issues other than a luxating patella in both hind knees that so far have not required any medical treatment.

I went back today to the same store and found a beautiful female born on 10/19. She seems to be very playful, energetic, active, etc, but she is crying/whining/barking all the time. When I put her on the floor she cries, and jumps asking me to pick her up. When I pick her up she stays with me for 2 seconds and then starts crying and sometimes trying to get off me. Then I put her down and the cycle starts all over again. Even when she manages to stay still when I'm holding her and she licks my nose/mouth, she starts crying after a while.

Is this normal? Is it a sign of pain or some underlying medical issue? As I mentioned, I can tell she's very energetic, etc, and I know dogs have different personalities. However, when I bought my male Yorkie he was about 1 week younger than her, and he never behaved like her. He seldom cried, whined or barked. This is something that has prevented me from buying her.

I tracked down the breeders (Los Velley Kennel in MO) and they seemed pretty reassuring in terms of the puppy's health.

Is the puppy's behavior normal given the fact she's about 9 1/2 weeks?

This is your gut trying to tell you something....listen to it.

Also, please don't buy from a pet store - their dogs are from puppy mills and I doubt you'd want to support that cruel endeavor, ya know? Buy from a good breeder whom you can meet in person and believe me, when the right puppy comes along...you will know it in your gut...just as you know in your gut something isn't right about this current puppy. Run don't walk away from this puppy something is wrong with it that isn't normal, hope you find a happy health puppy from a great breeder.
