How much do your babies weigh? I just had to wait 10 mins at petsmarts groomers so they can change his breed in the system because he's too big to be yorkie! He's 17 lbs...

Buddybear is 11 months old and weighs 7# 4 oz. I think this is about as big as he will get.

Zoey is 9 months and weights 2 lbs 7 ozs. I think she is almost done.

Don't let them push you around. Some Yorkies are that big. They are not to standard Yorkies, but they are still Yorkies. I bet they listed him as a Silky? They just think they know everything when they don't. I am sure you have a Yorkie and I am sorry they did this to you.

The petsmart here tried to tell me Teek was a Silky because he didn't have enough hair on his ears to be a Yorkie. They do not know what they are talking about and you need to tell them, no, this is a Yorkie.

Some Yorkies weigh 20 lbs. They are not standard.

I for example, have a purebred (with papers) English Setter. Breed standard says males are 27 inches at the shoulder and either 60 or 65 lbs (trying to go from memory on the standard). Gatlin stands 30 inches at the shoulder and weighs almost 80 lbs. He is still a purebred English Setter. He is not standard though. He would be terrible to use for breeding because he is not standard (he was fixed when I got him anyway).

You have a Yorkie and don't let them push you around. I don't know why the groomers in there think they can tell us what we own. Teek is purebred and I made them put that he was a Yorkie. They said "what does he weigh, about 11 lbs?" I said "7" He weighs 7-7 lb 2 oz on any given day and she looked at me like I just told her I weighed 100 lbs (I am a little overweight). I hope when she picked him up from me she realized that he was very light. Teek is actually not a bad example of a Yorkie to be honest, and for her to say his ears didn't have enough hair so he must be a silky, really?

Yea it's ridiculous! The first time I took him I said he's Yorkie and she gave me a sarcastic nod and when I paid the receipt said Yorkie poo and this time a different lady seemed to believe me but put a random breed his weight in the system so instead of the $30 it's supposed to cost (I think I paid $33 total last haircut there) it costs $45! She's like sorry we have to put a random breed his weight in cuz yorkies are supposed to be the little things

Oscar seems to be a good weight! I'm scared of having anything smaller than 12 lbs! Lol Teddy has been 12 lbs for a long time but my grandmas been feeding him human food and he got neutered and his weight just went way up! He's only 9 months though

When you go in there next time. Tell them you want it fixed. Tell them he is a purebred Yorkie and that is what he is and nothing else.

I couldn't believe I had to argue with them about Teek because everyone else who has ever met him knew right away that he was a Yorkie, as I said, he is not a bad example of the breed. Maybe not top show quality winner, but he is a good example anyway.

Just tell them he is purebred Yorkie and that is that. I am sorry they are being like this.

Yorkies come in various sizes...if you're paying they should put in Caucasian Mountain Dog if that's the breed you say he is.

Yes he is a perfect weight for us . He actually looks like a little tank because he is compact at 12 in tall and 12 in long :D ..

My Duncan is 8 months old and weighs 11 lbs. On TY, there is a Teapot Club whose members are yorkies over standard weight. Just because your baby weighs 17 lbs. does NOT mean he is not a yorkie. There are yorkies on here who are in the teens and 20's lbs.

I would go back to PetSmart and tell them that your puppy IS a yorkie and you did not appreciate being told he wasn't one because he was too big to be one. Maybe you can be the person that educates them that yorkies come in all shapes and sizes instead of just 'small'. And let them know that you want to be refunded the difference that you paid for being told your yorkie was a 'random' breed.

Even though I was ripped off and charged for a random breed of the same weight they did an excellent job on him! The last time was iffy but this time he is beautiful! It made me a little less mad seeing the good work! Yea the first groomer didn't believe me that he was pure Yorkie but this one explained that the way their system works is paying for their size and that their systems Yorkie size is the little teacups basically so that's why she had to put a breed that's his size...the groomer seemed ok I'm just angry with the system and the last groomer!

My last yorkie weighed in at 17 lbs, my boy Cody weighs 12lbs. But it's true as far as charging by weight. My neighbor and I use the same groomer, they have a yorkie & a Morkie, both weigh a bit under 5 lbs, they pay less then I do for grooming because their dogs are smaller then mine. I have used many groomers over the years and they do charge by weight. As far as them not listing your dog as a yorkie I would insist they change that in their computer, with me it's just the principal. This company is to big to have a standard weight of 5 to 7 lbs for yorkie hair cut in their computer. My concern would be, if they do not have the proper breed in their computer, say you drop off your dog, they crate the dog until they can get to him, say when they do they look on the computer and see breed unknown, you wind up with a yorkie that has a Cocker Spaniel hair cut. At least you were happy with his cut.

Yea he doesn't have the silky long hair normal yorkies have he has cotton wavy hair so I'm always worried they'll give him like a poodle cut or something but yea that's why I want them to mark him as Yorkie but they won't cuz of weight and that's why I'm really considering going somewhere else though I don't like a lot of groomers near me (the first place he went at 4 months was disgustingly dirty and they had 7 cats that just walk around the store and I'm allergic) and then I investigated another place before taking him to Petsmart and it didn't seem too clean either but it was better than the first

This is why I cut my dogs hair myself. I might not do the best job, but I am learning. Poor Teek is the guinea pig that I learn on though.

Haha poor Teek! We trimmed Teddy's "eyebrow" and it took 3 people to hold him and it looked a little bad but then a few weeks later he got groomed so it's ok!

I just set Teek on a chair and start working and he never moves. I pick him up and turn him to the side and he never moves. I pick him up and put his back end toward me with his face toward the back of the chair and he just stands there. I turn him back to the side and he just stands there while I work. He lets me work on him for as long as I want to. He is such a good boy!

I trimmed his hair under his arms, between his legs, his backside got a huge trim. I also trimmed his skirt so he isn't peeing in it as much. He doesn't look bad at all. I was quite happy with how it turned out for my first time really trimming him.

That's good! I get complaints from everyone who's cut Ted hair on how much he tests them! The unprofessional groomer said he bit her and that's why she missed a few pieces and basically lectured me on getting his haircut more often (he was 6 months having his first major cut) then the nicer groomer we had to day said he was a bit nippy but didn't like his face touched mainly was her only problems with him! He's always on the run so grooming is bottom on things he likes (I think the vet might be 1 level above it that's how bad he hates grooming!)

Do you brush him often? We brush the puppies a lot, even though they really don't need it much.

My 17th year old gave the puppies bath's today and then brushed them out nicely. Rowan still looks like he was just brushed. Raksha's lasted about 5 minutes. LOL

We have been brushing them several times a week since we brought them home to get them used to stuff like that. They are really laid back anyway though and don't fuss too much.

Now if you try to brush Teek's teeth, well that isn't going to happen again! I ended up with a 7 lb Yorkie on my head and scratches going from lap up to my head where he got there in about 2 seconds flat. That was a disaster and the only time I have ever seen that dog get upset about anything.

We are working with the puppies though so hopefully they won't be like that.

There used to be a lot of bigger yorkies on here. Mine is 19 pounds and my moms is 20.

That's a big size! I was raised with big dogs so I'm more interested in the bigger yorkies

I brush Teddy daily! He seems to hate it unless I bribe with Cheetos and I haven't attempted brushing his teeth...

Brushing hair is a must everyday. They need to stay use to the handling and the grooming is good for them. There teeth should be brushed everyday also. Even if its not very good at first and just a few seconds. After a few months you can give good brushing. Its important for their health. You are either going to brush them now or have them pulled later. Cheetos aren't a good snack for Yorkies. Should try something made for dogs or fresh veggies. In the long run your dog will be healthier.

Yea I'm trying to get money for teeth brushing supplies while researching what to use...as for brushing we do that at least once a day unless I have to take him to my grandmas. He used to be healthy eater until she took him for a few months so now I limit his junk food intake! What healthy snacks could I use to replace it?

One year old and just under three pounds . But yorkie's come in all sizes just like people lol
