Yorkie Puppy or Morkie Adult? I apologize for posting as much as I am, but I have a question. (Again..) As you may know, my dog passed away recently, and because I was so prepared, I feel ready to bring a new pup into the family. (Please don't judge me based on my way of coping; I want to save a life that I couldn't save when Socks passed.) I have two options-- I can buy a purebred Yorkie from a breeder, (I believe I told you about this.) or I can rescue a two year old Maltese/Yorkie from a person my mom knows. I told the breeder that, yes, I would get the puppy, but I haven't paid the deposit yet. I'm leaning towards the Morkie because all I would have to do is leash train him. He's housetrained and crate trained. (The hard part is done, basically.) With a puppy, who would be more fragile and I would have to spend more time with him, (I don't mind that, I just don't know if I can properly take care of a pup right now.) I would have to train and socialize it more than an adult. So what would you do? Give me reasons as to why you would do it; knock some sense into me! Thank you! (Yes, I realize that 90% of my activity is at odd hours of the night.. Woops.) |
Depends on how old the morkie is. If it's too old 8+ years you don't want to go through another painful experience so soon. If it's under that age definitely the morkie for sure. You'll be saving the dog and also like you said, it's already house trained and socialized.... Just as I'm finishing typing this my 7 months old morkie took a poop under the bed..serious. Geeezus... See what I mean? :D |

Oh, puppies, gotta love 'em. |
I almost always take in an adult dog. They are trained, at least some. They are really less work than a puppy too. At 2 years old, I would take the Morkie myself. I know I just got 2 puppies, but that was a chance of a lifetime for me to get them. I am having a blast, but holy smokes are they a lot of work! This is quiet time around here. They are up at 6am and playing so by 8 they are ready for a nap so this is MY time. LOL they keep me very busy. I know you said the dog is 2 and that is a good age, but I just took in a 9 year old Yorkie in January and oh do I love that dog! I am so glad I took him home with me because he is the best dog that has ever happened to me! Now to train the puppies. I would really consider the Morkie though. He probably has shots, you said he was crate trained and house broken I believe. If you don't take him where will he end up? The breeder will find a home for the puppy I am sure. Good luck! I can't wait to see pictures of whichever one you get... or just be like me and get both! LOL |
Hi Disasterous! I would definitely get the Morkie!!! It will be a lot less work plus you are saving a life!!! I found a cute little Morkie girl I was going to get but ended up with another boy lol!! You will be super lucky either way you go!!!! |
Save the Morkie. There is a 99% chance the yorkie pup will find a good home. Who knows what will happen to the Morkie if you don't rescue him? |
I believe, if you feel a connection, you should go with the Morkie. Puppies are sooo much work and require so much attention and may just be too much after your recent loss. I think you'd find the Morkie to be more fun for you sooner. But either way, only you truly knows what is best---for you and your new pup, whichever one you bring home. Enjoy your new little partner and never hesitate to post...I've found such great support and information here---and everyone is so understanding and patient! "I think every family should have a dog; it is like having a perpetual baby; it is the plaything and crony of the whole house. It keeps them all young." |
Only you can make the decision. You are going to be living with the pup . . But what I see . You already decided by what you wrote. . . Get the Morkie . . |

I think if you truly wanted the yorkie puppy, taking the morkie wouldn't even have been a thought when presented to you. Get the morkie ;). |

I'm leaning towards the Morkie, though, I really want another Yorkie. I did a lot of research on the Morkie and I think I'm in love. Cute, fluffy face and a bundle of cuddles and explosive excitement. |

Adults are definitely easier, and easier to train sometimes. More calm with better attention spans. I can't take both, but I really want to! They're both cuter than I would've ever expected, but with two dogs already, I can't have four financially. |
1 Attachment(s) I have a yorkie and a morkie. My yorkie seems to be a faster learner but my morkie is always following me around, wants to cuddle, and loves giving kisses. I guess that's the maltese side of her as they are more of a lap dog than yorkies... and yorkies are known to be lap dogs too. Get the morkie.. and if later on you really want a yorkie, get a yorkie too! :D Here's my 2 babies. Attachment 405851 |

I myself have a Morkie and would get the Morkie. We got Amy when she was about 10 weeks old and it takes a lot of time with a puppy. We are both retired one of us always had an eye on her to take her out when she would start roaming. My husband said never a puppy again cause he is getting too old to raise kids again. He just turned 75 and I am 66. Couldn't help but laugh when he said that. |
