Default Flint River Ranch Food

Has any one heard of or used the food by Flint River Ranch ? I came across a site for it and it sounds good, no by products, no corn and such but have no idea how good it would be. They don't do animal testing like Iamms does either.

I have a link to a page for it, http://www.flintriverranch.org/ and am wondering if some of you would take a look at it and tell me what your opinion is.

If any have used or heard good or bad about it , I would be interested in a report. Please help if you are able as I and I am sure others are always on the lookout for the best foods for the kids.

My dogs loved the DRY/WATER mixed with their regular kibble..but they would not eat the FR dry kibble with the mixture. DRY/WATER is a mixture of veggies, rice meats etc..you add water and it is like a stew to be mixed with dry.

i purchased a sample of their products to try out with bunjee. bunjee is "okay" with it. the only problem i have with it is that it doesn't have puppy formula and some of the kibbles are really big pieces. otherwise, i really like the ingredients and the process by which they are made. the dry water version of FR have consistently landed in WDJ's 10 top dry dog food list for the past few years now.

I think it's one of the best foods out there. I agree that some of the pieces are too big but I take a few seconds and break them up each day. Some dogs don't like it so you might want to try a sample bag - some of the websites offer them for free. There are many distributors so do a search for Flint River Ranch free sample - a bunch will pop up. The official website is www.frrco.com.

A friend used it and would get it form a local organic food store. Just last month she went to get some more and they quit carring it, they said it had by products in it. She tried calling the number for the dog food co. and it was no longer a working number. She has two yorkies and one is a picky eater and they loved it. I had heard a lot of good thing about the food, but now I don't know.

Cindy, I keep waiting to hear something like that. An it seems to good to be true kind of thing. They say the food does not contain by products, that it is human grade.
I spend the extra money - I really hope I'm not getting scammed.

Erin,
I know it is expensive. A local breed had told Kathy about it and another friend fed it to her yorkies, she has 6. Don't kown if you have Basic food stores where you live, but that is were she use to get it from. I got samples from her and my dogs loved it, but I have an older dog that is 16 years old and I try to keep the protein low for her. Where do you get yours from, maybe you can ask them about it. How is Gus doing haven't seen pic's of him lately, miss seeing him.

I've always ordered it online - if I ask them I'm sure I would get the same info they put on the websites. That's interesting that she bought it in a store. I'm pretty sure I read that they didn't sell to stores because of the short shelf life. I'll have to see if I am remembering correctly. Something else to wonder about. That is just one of the reasons I rotate the brands of food, you just never know.

Gus is great, thanks for asking. I will be taking some pictures this weekend of him and the gift he won from Dena (Halloween contest).

I hope your beautiful gang is doing well.

Is she sure it's Flint River? My understanding is that they've never been sold in stores. They've always been sold through online/catalog distributors. In addition, having by-products is a big NO-NO and WDJ (Whole Dog Journal)would never have it on it's annual top 10 dog food list if it did have by-products in it.

Thank you to all that have responded so far. I guess I will try it as I am not happy with the products I have changed to since I quit Eukanuba.

I emailed Debbie Jensen ( a distributor ) and she tells me that her small dogs eat the kibble just fine in regard to the size. My kids all have great teeth and I encourage crunchy foods for them so maybe it won't be a problem as the ingredients look good.

There is a money back guarantee so I ordered a 20 lb bag ( remember I feed 7 Yorkies, 1 poodle and occasionaly the neighbors Black Lab ) I will let you know what its like and if they like it.

I feed Toto this: http://www.littleshopofterrors.citym...age/537956.htm
You can feed it alone or mix other fresh vegetables/meat with it. It is a "human grade" food and she likes it. We feed the "Force" after trying samples of them all. Since it's dehydrated very slowly, it doesn't loose the nutrients that others do because they are heated to such a high temp. Our vet was very impressed with the ingredients/preparation and totally encouraged feeding it to her!

I used to feed my Maltese Flint River but it was too rich for his sensitive tummy. He had horrible diarrhea and vomiting while he was on it and it took forever to find out it was the food that was causing it. I stopped feeding it to him and it made a difference immediately. He also never seemed to really love it either and he was never a picky eater before. I still think it's a good food for the most part, just make sure your dog isn't super sensitive to rich foods and definitely do a trial pack before buying a huge bag like I did. Oh and just for the record, Tuffy was eating a combo of the Lamb & Millet and the Fish & Chips food.

Hi, I just came across this thread - so I know it's a bit old but I wanted to tell you how wonderful I thing Flint River Ranch is. That website you are referring to belongs to a distributor - not the actual company. I think that website does have a lot of good info out there, though. I've checked around on the web and it seems like every site belongs to a different distributor.

The number to the company will allow you to have it shipped directly to your door from their ovens with no shipping charge. the # is 909-682-5048. If you want a distributor # to order it under, PM me and I'll give it to you - it's my holistic vets.

from Flint River you can get them to send you some sample packs. It looks so unlike any other food you have ever seen before because it is twice baked and then broken into pieces, so the pieces are not some uniform size and shape. And you can add water to it if you want - I don't.

Flint River Ranch uses only wholesome ingredients. No by-products, commercial meals, products contaminated with chemicals, or any chemical preservative. This doesn't make them unique, as other pet health foods are essentially human quality. The oven baking process changes the molecular structure of the starches into an "easier to digest" form. There is less stress to the digestive system and, to my knowledge, this is the only company using this process.

My vet say's the change in a pet's health is almost always noticeable within a short time. The food is very concentrated and highly digestible resulting in less digestive health problems and smaller stools to clean up.

Flint River also is very compact - so you feed a whole lot less than other foods and it costs no more, usually less, to feed than any premium commercial food. I feed 1/4 cup a day to each dog.

the company has never had a "bloat" claim against it. The manufacturing process prevents this. The oven-baking and "cracked kibbles" only absorb enough moisture to start the digestion process, then they break down. Other meals/products, continue to absorb a great amount of water.

I normally feed Flint River Ranch Puppy & Adult Kibble Dog Food - with at least 37 ingredients including chicken, whole wheat flour, ground rice, lamb meal and fish meal.
this last time, I bought Flint River Ranch Trout & Potato - it has Trout, Potato, Course Ground Millet, Herring Meal, Oatmeal and Sweet Potatoes for the first 5 ingredients and also cranberries and blueberries in it. This is shaped differently from the puppy & adult food I described above - the trout & potato looks more like any other regular food - I think the puppy/adult formula took them longer to eat - which I think is a good think is good

Default I Really Liked FFR!

My girls and I really liked FFR. Yes liked. Unfortunately, we had to switch foods for medical reasons. They may be more expensive if you consider the size of the bag, BUT.. you give them so much less. With FFR I gave my 10 pounder 1/4 A DAY! 1/8 cup for the 4 pounder!

I really liked the ingrediants and the way they are made. They had the dry puppy/adult formula.

Only drawback is storage. Because of the way they are made they are perishable. I keep their food in the fridge and buy the smallest bag possible to keep it fresh.

Hope this helps. I'd go back in a minute if I could.
