14 months old and still eating poop.
 

Do they grow out of this? I don't know what to do anymore, I have read all the poop threads here and I'm just not sure what to do anymore. I was hoping she'd grow out of this but she didn't. What to do? :confused:

I forget what age mine stopped doing this but they did. I still have to block the cat box from Chachi or he will will eat cat poop

Lexi is almost 1 and she still eats her poop :( I recently bought some stuff from petco that is supposed to stop the poop eating, but it's too early to tell if it will work.

Cook is almost two now, and I still catch her doing it sometimes. Though when she was 5-8 months she tried to eat every poop.

I see alot of these threads and I confess I'm always a little confused. Do they just poop and then turn tight around and eat it before you can get to it?

ZoE associates poop with getting a treat. As soon as she goes, she comes and tells me, i go pick it up and flush it, and then she gets a treat. If she happens to poop while im gone at work (rare as she usually goes in the morning after breakfast and in the evening after dinner when i am home) she will run to the rug and kick her legs back, like she just went to tell me there is poop on her pad. Again, i pick it up, flush it, and she then gets a treat.

Maybe you need to try training that you seeing and removing the poop results in a reward for her.

My Ruby is almost 5 months and she stopped after a week or two of me feeding her a little nibble of pineapple once a day. Now she barks to let me know she's pooped on her pad.

I wish I had the answer for you. Mine does it too and I am so sick of pulling poop out of his mouth

I have tried pineapple, but i just can't get her to eat it. Kinda funny, she likes to eat her own poop, but hates pineapple!

I feel your pain :(, our little boy just turned 2 and if left to his own devices, he will indulge everytime.

We tried Pineapple and it didn't work. I have asked the vet, and she explained that although it is a disgusting habit, it's natural. Wolves and dogs in the wild consume their excrement so that their scent is not left behind (no pun intended). She said he maygrow out of it one day, maybe not. She suggested pouring tobasco sauce over it and let him have a taste. She feels if he tastes it a few times and thinks it now tastes awful, he will lose his interest to consume it.

Problem with that is we need to pour it on right away and hope that the smell won't deter him from tasting it.:confused:

I had a lot of luck feeding Abby banana after watching a suggestion on Cesar Milan that they might be short of potassium. I also kept a good eye on her, made negative noisesif she attempted it and treated her (with Cheerios) quickly.

I know this may be a silly question....but have you tried the powder that goes over their food...what kind of food do you feed? Winnie did this when she was on simply nourish. She also pooped kind of excessively so I wondered if she wasn't getting what she needed from her food. It's very gross so I feel ya....I hope someone has a suggestion that will work for you!!!!

My last girl did this all her life, she had to be put down at age 17 y/o. I worked all day, she was retrained from outside to inside when I moved, commuted 1 1/2 hours to and from work, I was gone 16hours, reason had to retrain to make on paper. So she ate the poop when I was at work. When I was home whether she made in or outside I was there to pick it up. I tried everything that was suggested, nothing worked. My vet said it could be from the poop smelling like her food. At that time I never heard about feeding pineapple. Sometimes I catch Cody trying this, I am ALWAYS with in sight when he goes, if I see him turn to smell it I call out to him and pick it up right away. I had a special screen door made years ago with a doggie hatch, in the summer my back door is open so he can go out to make, he is confined to deck only, one day he brings me his poop :eek:, that's how I discovered he was attracted his his poop. Soon after that I did catch him in the act of eating it, so he is watched very carefully, and I pick it up just as it hits the ground. Good luck, I hope you can resolve this nasty habit, if he continues to do this, that is just what it will become...a habit that will not be easy to stop.

I always recommend Solid Gold's SEP - it worked like a charm for us when Wylie was a pup...have you tried it?

Ewwwe this is so nasty so glad soooo far boo hasnt picked up this altho he has walked over to it but i pull him back. Wonder if this is caused by them seeing mom do it as puppies. Quite odd. I feel for all of you who have this issue.

Nicole, I hate to be the bearer of less-than-positive news. Teddy quit at three years old. Winston hasn't fully kicked the habit. I've tried EVERYTHING!!!!! I've used the pineapple protocol by the poop guru, potty mouth, Solid Gold SEP, etc etc. I suggest you consider switching her carbs over to green peas... no one eats anything made of green peas. My Rocket ate his poop until he was a year and a half. Now at two, he has stopped all of a sudden. Thank goodness. I've had many yorkies and none has ever done that until now. We just learned to watch and as soon as he pooped, it was immediately picked up off the pad and flushed. I would also immediately brush his teeth. I know it's normal supposedly but it's still disgusting...........especially if they kiss you.

I've tried so many different things but her pee pad continues to be spotless when I come home which means she eats alllllll the poop. Sometimes she even carries the poop to different places of the house so that I don't know she's eating it. I have to run after her when she has poop hanging out of her mouth. :eek: I guess this is a yorkie thing!! Are the peas what made Teddy stop? This is actually a really good idea.

Maggie does this sometimes, and she is 3, and feeding her bits of banana does seem to help. I use tiny pieces as her treats after she goes potty now (pieces of banana, that is, lol).

My problem is Ollie eating the cow poop I have scattered throughout my garden!
