Waking up during the night Hello, Rocky is nearly 4 months and at 11 weeks was sleeping all night (10pm to 7am)recently he has started waking up several times in the night and seems very restless. I take him outside and he immediately pees. Any suggestions on how to get him back to sleeping all night would be greatly appreciated. I have been letting him in bed with us to settle him down and then transfer him to his crate after he is asleep. |

He prefers the bed and that is very confusing for him. Either keep him in bed or put him in the crate, not both. A good play or walk before bed would be good too! Good LUck! |
I've noticed that my kids seem to go through stages. Sleeping through the night and then a period when they need to get up and potty. You can try taking food/water away a few hours before bed time, that may help. It didn't with mine. I'm grateful for the times we get to sleep all night and grateful that they will wake me to go potty even if it's 2 a.m. so that they don't have an acccident in the bed. My youngest is 6 yrs old and there are still times when he has to go potty in the middle of the night. |
Walking up during the night thank you for your advice, I really appreciate it. |
I think most Yorkies really like to sleep with their humans. As soon as Joey learned about pee pads, we put a chest at the foot of the bed with a pee pad on it. Later we put steps up to the chest. Ralphie has a sensitive stomach, and I have to feed him a few pieces of kibble during the night, but he still goes right back to sleep. |
He's still young! I think Jackson was waking up in the middle of the night sometimes til 5 months old. But once I started letting him sleep in my bed, it pretty much stopped. I usually picked up water or else he would drink it all up and then have to go. Now that he is almost 6, water is left down all night and he will get up sometimes to drink, but not have to go outside any earlier. EVERY once in a blue moon, he will wake me, and that means he really does have to go, so I will get up and take him out, but it's very rare. He usually will be let out for last potty between 10pm-midnight depending. And sleep until 10am or later if he can. Exercise more too = tired pup! |
