How often to bathe? Trinket is 10 weeks old today and is a bit smelly. How often do you guys bathe yours? I have been using wipes on her so to not have to bathe her often but she needs more than that right now. I am assuming a regular oatmeal based shampoo and conditioner will suffice? |
About every two weeks is good. You dont need to use an oatmeal shampoo unless she has skin problems. A puppy tearless shampoo is good and I like to use conditioner but I use a human conditioner like pantene. Petco has a good shampoo biogroom. |

I bathe mine every week in the summer, spring and fall. My vet suggested this especially sense she sometimes as allergy issues. With a puppy I would use a tear free puppy shampoo that won't burn if they wiggle and get it in there eyes. In the winter I bathe her every two weeks or more as needed. But I use sensitive baby wipes every night and a clean warm cloth. |
I bathe Gizmo once a week. He's an indoor dog but he gets stinky by the 5th day so I push it to every Saturday. |
Loki loves to play outside. He gets a bath once a week and I use puppy wipes and smell good spray in between. |
You might start out with bathing once every 2 weeks and over time find that you may need to do it more/less often. Billi gets a bath every Saturday- 10 days is her absolute max. She gets greasy/stringy looking before long and her beard will smell even after I wipe it daily. I like the Viva La Dog Spa whitening shampoo, it brightens Billi's hair a lot. If she's been really itchy, then I'll use their oatmeal shampoo. And I love their conditioner- smells really good. They also have a really good detangler and eye wipes. I believe you can find their stuff at Petco, but I usually just order it off Amazon. |
We bathe the SSSuperdogs about every week to 10 days. We also do " butt baths" and " weinie washes" between the baths. 😆 |
Thanks everyone! |

I bathe them once a month or so. Wipe them down after every walk and then spritz. I use GloCoat. If you email the manufacturing companies, they might send you a sample to try for free or maybe a coupon. |
I have a mobile groomer come every 2 weeks, and he gets his full service grooming every other groom such as trim, do his nails, anal glands, sanitary cut and all that other good stuff :-) I find he starts getting pretty oily by that second week so definitely needs to be bathed every 2 weeks at the least :-) |
I bathe once a week since 8 weeks. In between I use a grooming spray the blow dry with warm/cool setting. |
Emma gets a bath once a week. |
A full bath every 2 weeks. She gets a butt wash every week. She likes to sleep on my head and I don't like the smell of pee. |
WIENIE WASHES!! i'm lol'ing. Because of Tilly's coccidia, she has been getting bathed more often than i'd like but i'd like to aim for once a week to every 2 weeks once she's confirmed all better :). |
bathing I bath my bb every 3 or 4 days but if he plays outside he will get bathed when he comes in the house right away, and I use new pantene called BB, make sure u rinse him/her off really well. |
Magnus is that Glocoat by Top Performance or Tropiclean? Also do you just spray it and leave it on? |
At least once a week, more often if she gets too gross from walks or hikes. I wish I could bath her every day since she sleeps under the covers with me. |
I try to bath my yorkie girl about every two weeks, but sometimes it'll be a week and a half if she gets a bit more stinky. For my smooth coated, Jack Russell girls, they both get a bath once a month. They don't get stinky and oily as much lol. I am gonna take her to the groomers once a month, they recommend 6-8 weeks for a visit but she is going to need more like 4-6 weeks lol ^^; her hair is growing fast. |
Haha butt baths and weenie washes!😂. That is so true! Mine get them too between baths and also the nightly paw cleaning with baby wipes...very cute and funny wording! |
Remy gets a bath once a week. Most times, he gets his bath before we even reach a week. I love smelling a freshly bathe furbaby. In between, I wash his face, paws and privates daily. You would think he would like baths by now...Not! |
3 Attachment(s) Below should be a couple pictures from last month but with this warmer weather it's been a routine of Gucci's to wander down to the pond during our near daily walks. Today was no different. LOL He was muddy! Worse than the pictures below. Usually after his walks into the mud we find a place with much cleaner water to rinse him off.... today wasn't one of those days. So, once we returned home, both of us needed a shower. Him and I just jumped in and showered away. Him with his dog shampoo and me with the Irish Spring. After a vigorous toweling off he went racing into the living room with that little stub of a tail undulating. He bounced from leather couch to chairs rubbing his head and body on everything. Now, that stub was racing like I hadn't seen it before. And the rolling on the floor, looked like an epileptic fit with intermittent changes in locations around the room...always the stub in motion. I gotta be honest, he doesn't care so much for the shower but the towel and then the living room antics.... I think he truly loves. He's a very reserved, on guard watching dog almost always so this was unusual to see. My better half usually bathes him about every two weeks, that's not counting his recent swims in local creeks or Lake Washington. |
I bathe my boy every week and wish I could do it more often than that but I don't for fear that I'll dry out his skin. He smells like doritos and socks if I don't bathe him at least one a week. Needless to say, I hate doritos now and my socks get changed twice a day ...LOL |
Diva gets a bath at minimum once a week, depending on how much she plays in the yard or if we go out for a walk. I taught her to come to me when she poops on her pad so I can use baby wipes to clean her up. My new baby, Ruby is 8 weeks old and has gotten quick baths daily as she likes to step in her poop then scream from her play pen. LOL. |
My first post to this site, I just had to tell you how much I love those muddy yorkie pics :) |

It depends on how dirty Pao gets. When it is muddy out and he is dirty, I bath him once a week but if not, I find once every 2 weeks is good but I doubt we can go without a bath for 3 weeks. |

We usually bath/shower Pip and Caleb once every two weeks, though their faces, butts and bits are washed as needed. In the winter, when it's muddier, they get bathed more often. They've never been as muddy as Gucci, I dare not show that pic to Caleb, he'd be so jealous. He also loves water, last night, when he went out to pee, he dived for the puddles, came in soaked up to his armpits. Asked to go out again, just so he could do the same thing. |
I do bathe Winnie once a week...I brought her home at 10 weeks also and on our way home she had diarrhea and then sat in it. So she got her very first that day. She has had a bath every week since then. She is 2# of stinky hound dog by day 7!!! I use a tearless puppy shampoo and GNC conditioner from petsmart. I'm thinking of trying the espree shampoo that another member shared is on sale at petco right now .... mainly because the shampoo is leaving her head hair kinda greasy. I don't put conditioner on her head....so it has to be the shampoo right lol I would like to only bathe her every other week....but she sleeps in our bed usually on my pillow....so the stinky part isn't very appealing!! |
