Puppies/Food/Reward Training? Hey guys, new to the forum but it has been a lot of help when I google questions! I have just adopted two yorkie puppies, and I'm not sure I've slept since. My puppies are very picky -- I'm having to boil them chicken, their favorite, daily, and they will eat some kibble. What other types of foods do puppies (4 and 5 months) go crazy for? My boy goes crazy for nutrical, but I can't really feed him this in excess. I'm wanting to bribe them with food so they will listen and behave. This gets easier, right? Adopting two puppies at the same time, so crazy in retrospect! |
Oh my! Crazy yes! Lol! Try to limit/eliminate any people food and get them eating puppy food asap. Yorkies learn quickly if they wait or don't eat, Mom or Dad will surely give them something better. I wouldn't use the Nutrical except when necessary for hypoglycemia. For training , we use Cheerios or Nilla Wafers in small bits. Good Luck! |
We were told that they can have as much booked chicken as they want when they are puppies. Is this wrong? Mitch |

I would say yes, it is wrong, as puppy food and food for 'all life stages' are complete diets for pups and chicken is not a complete diet, lacking in many nutrients needed for healthy growth. |
We're also giving them kibble, they just won't touch the wet food. We had a hypoglycemic incident with our baby girl a few weeks ago so I'm just concerned with them eating at this point. |

Puppies under 12 weeks of age are more prone to having hypoglycemia... once the 12 week mark is reached hopefully they outgrow it. If it is still happening, you are right to closely watch her food intake. When I have fed chicken, I put it in the blender with water and liquefy it and then pour some over the kibble... that way they can't separate it out from their food as easily. I also make the bulk of it dog food and gradually cut back on the chicken till they're eating all dog food. Adding a bit of Parmesan cheese may help get them eating as they tend to like stinky stuff, lol. |
