Potty Training Hi everyone, I am new to this and have a question. Does anyone know about the puppy apartment? My Pebbles is 14 mos. old and I trained her to ring a bell to let me know when she has to go out which is working well when I'm around. I was thinking of getting the puppy apartment for when I'm not around or for when it's raining and very cold out. Not sure if she too old now to train a new method. Any input is appreciative! |
I know some members here have successfully used the puppy apartment with their puppy, but I don't recall reading about it with an older dog. I've always potty pad trained my yorkie. That works best for us with winter weather and my erratic work schedule. I like the pads because they are easily portable and can be used anywhere. I've put pads down in friends homes, my sons dorm room and even in my car boot when traveling. If I were to want to train an older dog, personally, I would take a potty pad outside with me and when she went pee, I would soak up some of the pee with the pad. I would then place that pad by the door I took her out to potty and praise like crazy and give a treat when she goes on it |
Ok thanks. Do you ever crate your dog? Mine always has accidents in hers from the beginning. My Pebbles us only 3.9 lbs. and just don't think she can hold it too long. |
Puppy apartment I have had my yorkie for three weeks,he is 12 weeks now. As an impulse buy I purchased the puppy apartment.when it came I really thought it would be a waste of money.however that wasn't the case. I have used it very night since day one and it has been great. Rocco has slept through the night every night since the day he came home. In the night he gets up and uses the other side of the crate to do his business. I put him in an Iris crate during the day and he uses the uses the training pads. When we are home we leave the doors open on the pen and the puppy apartment and he has had very few accidents. He really seems to like the puppy apartment especially at night and he does have the separate area to use for a bathroom. good thing I ordered the small instead of extra small because Rocco is a big boy almost 4lbs and he fits in it with little room to spare. good luck! |

Do you think at 14 mos it's too late for the puppy apartment? Not sure what the success rate is with older dogs ... The bell is great when we are home but she's not holding it when we are not so thinking it would be great for her... |
