| Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I agree, get a second opinion. I've heard people say they had been told that early surgery will prevent it from getting worse, but I personally try to avoid any surgery I can. My little girl was diagnosed with mild LP in both back legs as a pup, and the vet told us not to worry about unless I start seeing any signs. She's so light, the vet thought she might never have trouble with them. She's turning 5 next month, and I haven't ever seen her limp on them. And she's not afraid to run.

| YT 2000 Club Member | My Spud has the leg problems and the vet wanted to operate and I said no. So I have been giving him Dasuquin and he is doing fine. Sometimes these vets are hot to operate and unless the problem is severe and you have tried other options, then I would go ahead with it. |

| Yep that's how they test it. I would talk to an orthopedic surgeon they are the ones who should do the surgery. I never even knew about surgery until Callie had to go to the orthopedic surgeon and had to have her ACL fixed and they wanted to fix the LP at the same time. I heard that LP puts more stress on the ACL and other things so had I know I would have tried to get them fixed sooner. I personally would not do two at the same time. One caused so much pain for Callie even on pain meds that I would not want that times two. It also allows them to be able to limp and not force them to start walking on it to soon. Callie did have a problem with then pin they put in and it had to be removed but other then that she did really good we went to the physical therapy every week for a while after her incision healed and she would walk on the water thread mill. We are looking at having to go back to the orthopedic surgeon soon to have her other knee looked at.

| Lovetodream88, I reside in Waldorf and I was wondering if you could recommend a regular vet as well as an ortho surgeon? Snickers is just fine but I'd like to have recommendations prior to need. |

| Thanks. I appreciate the info. Mechanicsville isn't that terribly far and it's better to be safe than sorry, right? |
