is my yorkie a real yorkie? Hi, I live in the UK and we have had Teddy our yorkie pup for nearly 4 weeks now. He's a very good puppy. How can I tell if he is a true yorkie? He isn't a pedigree so I suppose that says a lot, although we saw mum and dad who were yorkies. I have hopefully posted a picture, perhaps you people could tell me? He is now 13 weeks old in this picture

100% yorkies comes in all shapes/sizes. So even if your Teddy might grow up to look little different from the standard yorkies you're used to seeing, it doesn't mean he's not a "real" yorkie. I don't think it'll really matter in the end though. You'll love him regardless. With that said, just from looking at the picture... Something about his face that makes me think he might have something else in him... Perhaps others can identify better. He seems very sweet and loving!

Thank you, he really is the sweetest boy ever! So clever and intelligent too! I'm not fussed if he's not full yorkie as like you say, we love him regardless. His ears have started to stand up now, and does look slightly different to the picture and he has silvery hairs starting to come through on his head. This pic was taken 2 weeks ago I think, ha ha.

It's really hard to tell with young pups. Some mixes start out looking like Yorkie pups and then change as they mature. You at least met the breeder and saw what they said were the parents. Are there a lot of breeders of mixed pups where you are? Did the breeders have other breeds on the property as well? If there were only two adult Yorkies there then probably your pup is a Yorkie. If there were other breeds there then there is always the possibility of a mistake breeding. He is a darling little thing. The only way to make sure would be a DNA test from a reputable company but I'm sure you love the little guy so much that the test is really not necessary.

The only other breed they had there was a greyhound. You're right, he is a darling and we love him to bits. We don't need a DNA test as we live him regardless. I am thinking that his dad was a cross breed that looked like a yorkie. I think there may be a silky terrier in there somewhere.

Teddy certainly is Mr. Handsome, isn't he!!! From the pic, it does look like there might be something else, especially in the snout, perhaps other terrier? It makes look 'more exotic'! lol. Bet you love him to pieces! I'm partial to the guys. My Liberty just follows me around everywhere and is happiest sleeping on my lap or at my side. A real Velcro baby. Enjoy that handsome little guy!!
