Earplugs for Enzo? :p Enzo sleeps in our bed at night, or should I say we sleep in Enzo's bed ;) Problem is, we go to bed around 11:00 - I have two grown kids who because of work etc. come and go at all hours of the night...the second the hardwood creaks, Enzo starts to growl...the closer they get to their bedrooms, Enzo starts to bark... I understand he is just doing his job alerting me, but frankly, he scares the living s**t out of us! It doesn't bother me as much, because I can roll over and go back to sleep, but my husband a shift worker, struggles falling back asleep and then is annoyed with Enzo. Any advice or are we destined to be jolted out of bed until they move out? |
I don't have a clue how to help you on this. Both of mine are Alert Watch dogs that will do the same. I don't really want them to stop, but I'd like to figure out how to get them to listen to me when I say, "Good job. Enough." ....I'll watch what others suggest to see if I can learn, too :) |
Could you answer a couple of questions? How old is Enzo and how long has he been doing this? What have you been doing when he does bark at them? |
He's almost 9 months old, but he's only been with us for the last 6 weeks or so. His previous home was very quiet she told me. Meaning the whole family went to bed at 10:00, him included, so the house was quiet until morning. Once I get my mind wrapped around to what just happened after being jolted awake...I tell him "Enzo quiet, its just Krysten" He'll growl a few more times, or make that quiet "woof, woof" noise and just as he's finally settled and us back to sleep, the other kid comes home, and we start all over  My little protector <3 |
My DH also works shift work so I understand your situation. In our case however he is the one who can fall asleep at the drop of a hat and I am the one left awake for what seems like an eternity. Our kids are grown and moved out but we like to sleep with the windows open, especially with this wonderful 60 degree weather we are having. We live on one of the main streets in town (Main St. literally) and Princess Sophie will bark/growl and prowl the bed when she hears things going on outside. What I have started doing is when she alert barks/growls, etc., I reach for her and pet her back softly and whisper calmly to her to tell her that "it's ok" and now, she may utter a low growl (always has to have the last word) but she quickly settles down and we can all go back to sleep. I don't know if this will help you and possibly you have already tried this or something like it but I do hope things get better for you and your DH!!! Blessings! |
