Make sure you follow up with your reg. vet ASAP! Get instructions for feeding him written down by the ER vets too before you leave, and follow what they say exactly! Make sure you have everything you need to care for him at home- food, karo syrup- if the ER vets say to give it- medicine, syringes marked at the amounts you need to give. All this will help if your going to have to do late night feedings- makes it easier on your eyes when your sleepy! You're going to have to care for him until you get him back to his mommy. I'm glad he gets to go back to her for a few weeks, he'll be stronger and healthier when he returns to you! |
Keeping little Joey and you in my prayers! |
So sorry you are going through this!! Hope he gets stronger soon! I'm glad the breeder is taking him back for a few weeks until he get over this hump! |
I'm keeping you and Joey in my thoughts and praying for his recovery. *hugs* |
Bad news Apparently they took him off the IV's and force fed him with a syringe and even then his glucose levels went back down. The doctor said that even if I were to keep him at the hospital another day his chance of survival are less than 30%. Called the breeder who is willing to take him back and keep a constant eye on him. She said at the end of the day hypoglycemia is preventable so if he passes its not covered in the guarantee. God knows I fed him constantly, kept a constant eye on him and did everything I could. I'm taking him to the breeder and I'm leaving it in gods hands now. Their is something about this vet at this hospital that I just don't trust but I'm doing what my gut is telling me to do. I ask that you all pray for him I don't even have the energy to argue with the breeder but any insight will help. If he were to pass I'll want him to do it with the people he loved his real mom and sister. He will be discharged at 7pm and I will make the hour and a half drive to the vet. |
I think his issues are more serious than a parasite i think its good you are returning him to the breeder |

I am so sorry. :(. It sounds more than hypoglycemia to me. Maybe your own vet can clarify it. I so hope the breeder will work with you if it is something else. Maybe he will pull through it and she can help out. I know you must be exhausted. Hugs to you and prayers for this sweet little one. |

That ER vet just doesn't sound right and I wouldn't be trusting them. It sounds like liver shunt to me. It sends them into hypoglycemia but no matter how level your blood glucose levels are they will continue to have problems until the shunt is taken care of. I hope the breeder gets him in to a vet right away and not just try to treat him as though he is only hypoglycemic. I am so sorry you've had to go through this. I will be praying the little guy gets the help he needs. |
Poor Joey I have just read this sad post and I am so very sorry little Joey had this setback. We all thought he was on the mend and would be fine soon. You must be so devastated by this roller coaster you have been riding recently, and at the end of your tether. You are right, you have done all in your power for Joey and we pray that the breeder can revive him, perhaps with his mom and siblings for comfort. That is sweet of you to consider that Joey would wish to be with his first family now. It is so frustrating and sad that you still do not really know what ails the little mite, and may never do so. I do so feel for you having to go through all this stress with a little baby you thought was going to be well and with you for all his life. Praying for you and Joey and hoping he beats the odds and survives. Hate to bring this up, but your breeder has a lot to answer for!! It is a bit late now to come to Joey's aid. To now say it was hypoglycemia as an out is reprehensible, when you have been so careful about keeping him from that. Joey has a major health issue and perhaps a different vet will be able to diagnose and save him even at this late hour. Wishing you peace knowing you have done more than your best for this little baby, please do not feel guilty it is not your fault, you could do no more!!! It is in God's hands now and miracles can happen if we believe. Love and hugs. |

I also hope that you will not turn yourself away from owning a dog, as you seem to be what a good dog owner is. This situation is so very stressfull for you, what-ever the outcome might be. I would like to suggest a couple of things for the future ; a) buy pet insurance right away b) build up a nest egg for your dog.... you do see how emergencies can happen, and you need the funds right Now to care for them. We will be here for you and your puppy... All prayers and good thoughts going out to you |
Take care and drive safe. I'll be praying for baby Joey and you also!! |
