Yes, start with the YTCA. Avoid breeders who advertise in the local paper, craigslist, etc. When you see puppies, make sure the mom is there at least. If there are a bunch of puppies and no mom, that person is most likely a broker. Ask plenty of questions, and if you get the run around or excuses, skip them and go find another. It's hard to find a good breeder. I'd say 99.9% of them are no good. It's hard to find that .1%, but those are the best of the best. If you think you don't need a beautiful show quality dog, then please consider rescuing one.

| My gooooodness! I didn't read all the posts, but I had no idea about the back story on Misa Minnie's owner! This is so interesting because while I was deciding between a Maltese (same as my previous dog) and a Yorkie, I decided on Yorkie because of Misa Minnie's cute Youtube videos. Her training and tricks were so inspiring. Had no clue her owner was a member here, scammed people for money, only to buy more unhealthy teacups! How awful! I could tell from Misa's adult looks that she wasn't bred 'standard', but I never bothered to questioned where she came from. That was before all my research on backyard breeders. Then by the time I got my Scottie, I forgot all about her. Guess I shouldn't be too shocked. But glad I found out about this! Definitely no longer a fan of hers!

| I just read through this whole thread and it reminds me of the quarter horse/thoroughbred world. Whenever animals are bred for speed or sport (or cuteness/tricks, in this case) in order to make money for their owners, many — the ones not fast enough or talented enough — or possibly in this case, trick-cute-tiny-trainable enough — get “culled”; thrown by the wayside. This is only my guess, but it’s possible for a person bent on becoming a star through training a tiny and adorable dog, to go through dogs until they end up with the one that hits the jackpot. |

| To add for clarity — Not that I’m saying she purposely kills dogs. I mean that, purposely buying the tiniest yorkies to train and use for sideshowesque/money purposes, with these tiniest ones having the most health issues, usually, and coming from less scrupulous breeders, usually, would definitely show more deaths, or more “turnover”. And I also am not saying all breeders of smaller yorkies have less morals. I’m saying that unscrupulous breeders know the popular draw and the extra “cha-ching” of the smallest yorkies. |

| Anybody know if little Miss is still alive, still starring in videos?

| A couple years ago they closed down her pages and it was believed she died. I have been very happy to not see her videos popping up honestly.

| It breaks my heart to even hear or see little Misa's name. Anyone that knows dogs / Yorkies can tell Misa is not a happy baby in any of those videos, she has no life in her little eyes. There was always a bowl of food or treats in these videos, never did Misa get a food reward, you can see Misa look at the food or treat wanting it but never getting it. Misa was a working dog only, not a loved one and it showed in her eyes. People think what a wonderful trainer she had and how cute Misa was, but if you really looked at the dog her eyes told the story, she was not a happy yorkie. Over working a wee lil pup like Misa to me is animal abuse.

Little Misa never glowed with joy at doing her ‘work’ as Tibbe does when he performs obedience and his couple of tricks. He baits me several times a day throwing trick behaviors to train, he loves it so much. He’s so cute begging to train we do it even on days he’s feeling his arthritis and I modify my obedience requests accordingly. We don’t do sit-ups or his left forepaw wave or high five anymore as his left shoulder is arthritic, though he throws that behavior at times to bait me to work with him! So endearing but I try to stop him before he hurts himself, always with happy distractions so he won’t think I’m displeased with his performance. Misa just never showed that utter enthusiasm in her work and if that’s missing, so is the fun and camaraderie, team-spirit any dog doing tricks should show if his trainer makes training fun, a big win. Poor little thing, hope she’s not really dead, unless her life was unhappy and fearful. In that case, she’d be better off out of that home entirely!
