Gracie Update :) Thank You for all your prayers and kind thoughts. (I posted this morning in Sick & Emer.) Gracie will make a full recovery. Thank God, she did not need a bowel resection, none of the intestines were dead. The blockage was about the size of a mans thumb. The Vet thinks it is an owl pellet ! OMG something else to add to, the worry about list. |
Oh my I'm so sorry to hear this about sweet Gracie. Thank the Lord she is going to be ok with full recovery. Hugs to you both. |
I'm so glad she is going to be OK. The poor little thing. "Owl pellet?" Do you have owls living right near your house or is this something she could have picked up on a walk? We have some huge owls that live in our woods. I have seen them in the early morning hours. Have no idea what to watch for. Do you have any idea? |
Yes we have owls close by. We have two small lakes and several public parks all within walking distance of my home. Honestly I have never thought about owl pellets. The definition I found said, owls kill small mammals and eat the bones, fur and feathers. Some parts of the bird or mammal are not digested. Owls then regurgitate a hard little capsule shaped object of bone, teeth, fur etc. It is sometimes called an owl pellet. These owl pellets can be found where owls, live, hunt and nest. |
I am so glad Gracie is ok and will make a full recovery. |
So glad she's okay! |
I am so glad she is OK. This should tell people NOT to hesitate to take their furbaby to the vet if they thing something is wrong. If you had waited.......... Louise |
I'm glad to hear Gracie will make a full recovery :) I also wanted to thank you for posting this as it made me realize that at some time either an owl or one of the hawks had left a pellet in our yard (I'd found a weird looking bone & when I researched it I found out it was a squirrel shoulder blade) but didn't know at the time where the bone may've come from since there were no other bones around it. We have several hawks that hang around here so I never allow Tuffy & Bella outside alone. I also tend to follow them around the yard just to keep an eye on them. |
I'm glad to hear that Gracie will be okay. Poor girl... Thank goodness you got her to the vet! |
So glad to hear that she is doing well, it seems that there are so many things to worry about with these babies. |
Oh my, thank goodness you realised and got her to the vet nice and quickly! :) We have loads of owls around here....as everyone has said - another little joy to look out for! :D A big hug for Gracie, and hope she gets better very soon! :) Sally + Harry x |
I'm so glad Gracie will make a full recovery. Good catch Teresa! I had never heard of owl pellets til this post...thankfully I have no owls living near my home! However there are falcons and small hawks where i am, so I never let my babies out by themselves. |
So glad she's going to be ok! How scary for you! Prayers for a quick recovery! |
