Ears Hello folks! I so worried because my yorie's ears wont stand up. Shes 4 months old and Ive done everything. Taped her ears, shaved them, etc. Shes a good yorkie, from a reputable breeder, and with AKC papers. I dont know what to do! Any help is welcome! Thanks. :animal36 |
Could she be teething? Sometimes when their still so young they go up and down. Have you talked to the breeder she may be able to give you some advice. |
She is still teething and her ears will most likely go up and down until she is done. In the meantime you can continue to shave (carefully, with clippers) the tips of the ears to reduce the weight on them and you can massage her ears, gently, from the base to the tip, that will help increase the circulation to the ear. Ears that are too thick and heavy and, sometimes, ears that are too thin may be hard to train to stand. Please be careful when taping and be sure to use the right kind of tape so it doesn't damage the ears. Good luck |
My Oliver is 3 and a half months and his are up and down. They take turns. I shave his ears once a week and massage every time he'll let me. |
I think it depends on the individual dog. I have two litter mates both girls 5 1/2 mths old. Lilys ears have never stood up unless she is lying with her head back and then they flop up. Mollys ears are both up and sometimes the left one drops halfway I think this is due to teething as her ear is half way now and a tooth fell out last night. ~Dont think Lilys ears will ever be up which seems odd as I said they came from the same little. Im not bothered though they are my little munchkins anyway around. |
Today was the first I've read about teething. Oliver's right ear was 3/4 up, left floppy, then both nearly up with tips down, then left up right down. It's funny trying to keep up, he seems different every morning. Haha. My phone is filled with pictures. I don't want to miss a thing! |
my friends Yorkie had sticky up ears and after she got fixed they flopped, stuff happens, you'll love them floppy or not |
Some Yorkies were just destined to have cute little floppy ears. I think floppy ears are just adorable. |
Someone once posted that they gave their puppy about 1 tsp of cottage cheese daily. It is supposed to be a calcium supplement that helps with the forming of the ear cartilage that is needed for strong ears. I've never done it myself but sounded good to me to add to the other things you can do to encourage the ears to stay up. |
My gf told me she heard calcium supplements. I didn't ask the vet, so all I'm doing is weekly shaving ears and massage ears when he's sitting still. |

I gave both my pups cottage cheese or yogurt (plain) every day while they were young- They liked it and it didn't seem to hurt them. They still like it as a special treat! Ziva's ears stood up at 4 months with an occassional floppy day, Abby was born with them standing;)up! |
