Leaving my puppy alone I have a 16 week old baby,Zoe, I got her when she was 12 weeks old. That means I have had her for 4 weeks and I left her at home alone tonight for about an hour for the first time. I blocked off my kitchen with a gate, she is used to that because I do it when I am making dinner. I put her bed, my thirty I had worn today, all her toys, including a kong with a treat. I didn't make a big deal when I walked out, just said good by and told her I would be back. I was just down the street and have 2 cell phones so used them like a baby monitor so I could monitor her. She barked a couple times but not bad at all. When I walked back in the door I again didn't make a big deal out of it, but she climbed on my lap and cried very pathetic for about 10 minutes. Any further advice on how she will be okay? |
I know exactly how you feel for the first year it was so hard to leave Georgie. Georgie still shakes at times when we go to leave. Just know you are doing it the right way (not to make a big deal) and sometimes she will have to be alone and it's ok she will be fine. |

I did the same as above, did practice runs for a whole day...putting the hair dryer on (also got Dexter used to the sound and now he loves it!), putting my coat on and getting my keys. It was pretty boring, but after one day he was absolutey fine with me leaving him because he knew I would be back. |
Mine had tezzies when I used to leave, they are fine now. I do leave a radio on when I leave so it want be so quiet. They just look at me sadly when I leave, I just say I'll be back later. They are very excited when I return weather it was 15 minutes or 4 hours. |
Yorkies are very social, and need companionship. Some people say you should never own just one because of this. However, some of us just don't have the means for more. :) Very good advice to make practice runs!! If she is still stressed, some folks find thundershirts helpful. I was seriously considering this product, before we were blessed with adding Miss T to our family. Abigail has separation anxiety when my daughter, who is multi-challenged, leaves the house. |

I will tell anyone, He is not my dog. Just as long as I keep buying the food, they are both happy. |

leave something out that smells like you, that will help and leave the radio or tv on for the little one |
I am the worst for this. Ralph has been attached to me since day one and i cant leave him alone he goes crazy. So he may come almost everywhere with me. I know thats probably bad and ill take all the heat for it but ralphs like my kid and im glad he likes going everywhere! |
When I first got Sadie, she was only 7 weeks old ( I KNOW way too young) I would drop her off at my parents on my way to work. A year later we got Lillie. It KILLED me to leave them when I had to go to work but, at least they had each other. We just got our little Bentley. He was 5 months when we got him. (Sadie is now 6 yrs and Lille 5 yrs old) STILL bothers me to leave them when I go to work...I used to leave animal planet on for them but when the dogs (on tv) whine or bark it scares the life out of Bentley. so now I leave light classical music on for them,..they are very relaxed when I leave... |
