Blue Buffalo ? after reading so many good things about blue buffalo brand dog food i decided to switch my 15 week old yorkie. I live in a small town and the only place i have found that carries it is tracktor supply. When I went there today they didn't have any blue buffalo specifically for puppies the closes was toy/small for adults. I didn't buy it because I wasn't sure if she could have it being 15 weeks and wanted to ask on here first |
You might consider waiting a few weeks to begin switching your puppy to a new food. If what your puppy is eating is agreeing with its tummy you might give it a bit more time to adjust to new surroundings. My little one is eating Blue Buffalo but I didnt make any changes to her schedule or what she was eating until she had finished her shots. My reasoning was that I didnt want to change anything, incase the immunization shots caused a problem,I would know that, that was the problem. I like all of the Blue Buffalo products and all of my dogs are now eating the kibble for small breed adults. My puppy is now 15months old. Remember when switching from one food to another to do it very slowly. If the new food does not agree with puppys tummy you have a chance to get them back on their old food. |
I advise my puppy parents to start switching to the adult small breed kibble they are using I highly recomend two, Natures VAriety and Blue buffalo, when the puppys turn one year old, and yes, you must do it gradually, I am right now in the transition from Natures Variety Puppy to Blue Buffalo Puppy , for one of my new puppies, she is going home on blue because the family's other silky eats blue.. I just started the transition , she is eating 3/4 NV and 1/4 blue, by next week she will be in half NV and half blue, then 3/4 blue and 1/4 NV and finally the week she is going home she will be in all blue if everything goes well... hugs, |
I can't say about what age you should make transitions. But I will say that we tried BB for Bailey and he refused to eat it. We even took it away and put it down twice a day. He only took a few bites because he was hungry, but wouldn't eat it. I have no earthly idea why not. We even switched food and I mixed the BB in with the new. He actually picked up the BB and dropped them all on the floor. Strangest thing. We ended up donating 3/4 of a bag to one of the local shelters. Might want to see if you can get samples. |
I love Blue Buffalo kibble, Yoshi is allergic to chicken and some grains and their fish and sweet potato Life Source works great for him, his coat is gorgeous even though I keep his short. Miss Priss is on the puppy formula of Life Source and doing great too. |
True, some dogs Will not eat it, my best friend's morkie will not eat NV, at all, she tried a few time, and Nope the lil girl will rather starve than to eat NV, she eats blue buffalo now..I had never try it with my silkies tho. i am pretty happy with Natures but blue is my second choice if I ever have to change.. hugs, |
Thanks for all your advice!!! |
Wow! My baby is still on Science Diet. I was gonna switch her to BB, but I saw "meal" as an ingredient. Can someone explain to me what that is. I was under the impression that BB didn't have "meal", but then I checked every other dog food and they all have it. Am I just an idiot? I spent 40 minutes in PetSmart trying to figure out what dogfood to get - only to stick to Science Diet. |
I feed Callie Blue Buffalo and get it at Petsmart. If your dog is doing well on it you may have to start ordering it online or the store might order it for you. |

Blue Buffalo is in our rotation. My three are on it right now and love it. It is much better than SD... IMHO |

Meal is something ground up. It is what is ground up that counts. Flour is meal made from ground up wheat. In pet food, there are additional considerations and ingredients that can be far more dangerous and/or lack nutritional value. |
I am going to go ahead and order the puppy food online, hopefully she will like it!! |
There are good grains in Blue Buffalo, my dogs love it and I don't have to dr it up with anything, they eat the kibble very well. |
