My little girl is only 1 1/2yr old and just had her first bout of pancreatitis and it was very mild. But the vet did put here on wet I/D for two weeks and then we put her back on dry food but I switched from Frrom Whitefish and potato to Solid Gold in the green bag...sorry I forgot what it's called...anyway it's one of the lowest fat food I could find. She's been fine ever since, but she hasn't gotten her appetite back per say so just in case I took her back for blood work. The vet said everything was looking good. But I got some dry I/D and have mixed the two foods together. She really seems to like that. Our 7yr old male Snickers has been eat the same food the Frrom for years and has never had pancreatitis even when he got a little heavy a couple of years ago. Sophie Kate has Pancreatitis and only eats either Hills ID or RC Low Fat. For a treat she can have Charlee Bear treats (low fat). As far as the pooping issue, I can tell you that Hills ID has a lot of fiber and that may be what is causing the issue. Sophie Kate has been on it for 3 years after a couple of episodes of Pancreatitis, she will still eat it but sometimes sticks up her nose. That is when she gets the RC Low Fat (for a change in diet) or honestly I hand feed her. |
Zoey had her first attack of P after eating Stella & Chewy's. Then two years later she had a second attack after giving her treats that were 24% fat (I never checked the fat content because they were treats). She is on RC low fat for life. My vet said she can not have anything with more than 5% fat. She is hungry every few hours on RC and I have to feed her three times per day. We saw the vet this last week and I told him how hungry she was and he said to give her some rice and chicken at night to fill her tummy till morning. Even feeding her more she has not gained weight. We need to keep her at 6lbs as she had femeral head surgery and should not get heavy. I told the vet I was really sad that I couldn't feed her raw and he understood that and was very nice about it even though he does not agree with raw. My Jackson eats raw but he has a rock gut. Jackson is a good sized Maltese. |
