| Excited but nervous new Yorkie Mom Tomorrow we welcome a new little Yorkie angel to our family. I have a 2 year old Bichon Yorkie (Brodie) and am a little nervous for him - I don't want him to think he is any less special or loved. Is there anything that really stands out that I should know when introducing his little sister? I have been wanting a little sister for Brodie for a long time and I think we finally found her. She is a rescue from the huge puppy mill bust in Quebec (527 dogs) recently. Actually, she was born in the shelter just after they were all removed from the mill. She was only 5 ounces when her Mom and three siblings went to their foster Mom's place. I can't even begin to share how excited we are to finally get her. I have spent alot of time on this site in the past two years (just viewing) and I think alot of the infomation I learned from this site will help as we go forward. |

| How exciting for you!! And how wonderful that this little angel has been rescued and will get to live a normal life. There are so many people on here that are full of experience to help out. I am so thankful I found YT with my two girls. I just introduced Mikki into our house this past July. Rosie had been the only pup for 4 years. Then Mikki comes along. The only thing I can really recommend is to make sure that life for Brodie is as much of the same as possible. I also fed Rosie first, groomed her first, just did everything first but I have two females. I don't know if it is different when they are male and female. Hopefully someone can tell you more on how to make this transition a success!! Good luck to you and can't wait to see pictures of your new little one!

| Every dog is different. You might be suprised by them. I've seen some dogs turn into instant Momies. Trying to take care of the new dog like a puppy of their own. Others will react like an intruder is present. And all kinds of different reactions in between. If Your dog seems to feel insecure about the new pup, You'll have to keep reassuring them that they are still your lil boy. Just keep loving them hard, and they will adapt. Congrats, and good luck! Congratulations! How exciting! When I brought Mia home in August, I took Brody with me to meet her and cuddled them both all the way back. But, they played 'King of the (my lap) Hill' at her house before we all left, with her winning most of the time...a first for Brody who usually wins that game with other puppy friends, and they were friends within minutes. I'd only had Brody 4 months when I got Mia. Both were just over 1 year old...an easy blend. She was somewhat confused, on the trip home, as to what was happening...as Brody had been when we brought him home. There is always an adjustment that must be made, but it doesn't have to be ugly. When I bring a new one home to meet the family, I do have a bit of a technique, the basis of which is my love for both existing and new babies, and confidence ('feeling') that everything is okay and normal. If you are nervous, scared, or tense, they will sense it and react accordingly. With human children, people often offer 'bribes' (new toys/treats/trinkets) but I'd not try to bribe the existing fur baby with a new toy or treat...they usually are not interested anyway...the love I'd have for each of them I'd expect to be apparent to both of them I doubt you'll have much of an issue, but it will depend entirely on you and especially the fur babies. I am thrilled for you and your babies. I am amazed at 527 rescues...wow! I cannot even imagine trying to come up with that many names... - Cat | |

| Oh that's wonderful! Introduced Teddy to my others when they were 8 years old. They eventually accepted him and now they are a happy little trip. I'm sure your Babies will get used to each other fast.

My furkids Donating Member | Congrats on your new furbaby!! We have to girls, Sadie 7 yrs and Lillie 5 yrs. The week before Christmas we got our little 5 month old Bentley...We dropped the girls off with my parents so they could meet on neutral ground. We didn't want them to think Bentley was a "replacement". We leashed both girls and let Bentley run,,,they sniffed at each for quite a while. When we brought him home we let him run around, the girls were'nt impressed with him! Sadie, being Alpha girl, pretty much TRIED to stay away from him...Lillie my more passive girl just looked at me with sadness in her eyes...broke my heart. I held them more than I did Bentley which was EXTREMELY hard because he loves to be held....they are not mean to him at all...they let him eat out of their bowls and even played with him (for a quick second!).. Each day is getting better...Now when I lay on the couch I have 3 yorkies on me!!...Bentley likes to lay up under my neck (this used to be Lillies spot, Sadie under the blanket behind my knees and now Lillie is getting closer and closer to him.,....I like to call them my "yorkie blanket"! LOL...Give your boy time...he will eventually come around,, Good Luck!

| Welcoming Gracie Well, we brought Gracie home today and Brodie loves her . They have had two play sessions already. Gracie is laying down taking a rest and Brodie is keeping a watchful eye with the odd whine becuase he wants to play again. I think he is going to love her as much as we do. She's tiny but I certainly think she will be able to hold her own. Thanks for all the kind words and advice. Is nice to know there are so many people ready and willing to share their wisdom. I have attached a few pictures |

| Oh wow I am so happy for you! It is wonderful that you were able to take a rescue dog. I can't bear the thought of any animal suffering like those poor little angels in those puppy mills do Gracie is BEAUTIFUL! And what a great name you have chosen for her. When we brought Chloe home I was terrified of what my older dog would do. Georgie was 12 at the time and was never fond of other dogs. She really shocked me though. She wasn't over the moon with the new addition but she basically tried to "grin and bear it". Chloe loves to tease and taunt George. George just sits there making growling grumbling noises while Chloe jumps up and licks her face. Of course for two years she has been grumbling as Chloe does this but has never once harmed her. Poor George lol. |

| I can't take credit for the name - her fostermom named her because she said it was by the grace of god that she's alive. Turns out the name really suits her so it is her forever name now and we love it. |

| Well Gracie and Brodie are getting along great but I am wondering about something. Brodie has this little growl and bark that he does when he wants to play and turns out Gracie is a quick learner because she is now barking when she plays with him. They play and she grabs his ears and face etc and he sort of pokes her with his nose. If she gets too carried away, he kind of rolls her away. Both of their tails are wagging and Brodie rolls over on his back when he's playing so I know they are both having fun but I just wonder about this barking of hers - it's not the playful growl like his - it's more like - hey look what I can do! I don't want to encourage her to be a barker. Any suggestions? |

| Can't give you any advice on the barking. I've never had any luck with getting them not to bark! But....best of luck and congrats on your new addition! She is a cutie pie! |
