Overprotective mommy??? Ok guys, give it to me straight. Do you think I am being an overprotective mommy? Let me explain. My fiance likes to rough house with Nikko. He flips him on the couch, play fights with him and sometimes I think he gets a little too rough. I try to pull Nikko away from him but the little guy is a toughie and he loves playing with daddy this way. He will go right back at him even though he is getting slapped at. I fight with my fiance to leave him alone and he says I am being a nag and that Nikko loves this kind of play and I should let him be a boy and stop trying to turn him into a girlie dog. I fear that he is fragile (he's only 4.5 pounds) and I don't want him to get hurt. I also fear this might make Nikko aggressive even though he is such a smart boy that he knows he can only play with daddy this way. Mommy is good for hugs and kisses and daddy for slaps and body flips. Am I being a spoil sport? I just love my baby so much and I don't want him to get hurt. |
Ok, I'll admit that I am an over-protective Mommy too! Please becareful with the 'fighting' play, b/c Troy does it with TJ and I think TJ is starting to show signs of aggressive behavior. I can't put all the blame on that but I think it is a big part of it. I am also good for lots of hugs and kisses. But, I have a tendancy of chasing TJ and Roxy around the whole house and they always grab a toy and run with it. I have read that type of playing can promote aggressive behavior too, b/c in the end I stop chasing them but I never take away their toy, so they think they are winning! Everyday is a learning experience... |
I too am an overprotective Mommy, but luckily my husband is an overprotective Daddy! :p I think he is more so protective than I am. Big softie!! I completely understand why you wouldn't want him to play this way. He could get hurt. Good luck with trying to convert your soon to be hubby!! :) |
I don't want him to get aggressive but you are right, I see him becoming more and more nippy. I think it has to do with the rough play. What is it with these men? My fiance can't see Nikko happily chewing on his toy, he has to go tease him and get him all rowdy. If he is like that with the dog, imagine when we have a son? |
In all fairness though, my fiance adores Nikko. The other day I found them asleep on the couch, Nikko on Louis' (my fiance) chest. They are my 2 favorite boys but sometimes they get carried away with the playtime. Maybe Louis is right, maybe I am being a party pooper. What do you guys think? Should I leave them alone? |
I know what you mean...what the heck is up with the daddy's a rough housing. Marty is so rough with Dollar sometimes....and I am always like stop it you are going to hurt him. I find myself repeating that over and over....but Dollar always plays back. I will never stop saying it just like I guess boys will be boys and they will not stop playing...it is a viciuos never ending cycle...LOL! |
yes, let them be..im sure your man would never hurt the baby.... they love playing like that.... its their time....and you have your time in a different way.. |
o goodness, nikkos mommy- you have given me an insight i had kinda overlooked- i can picture my fiance doin THE SAME THING that urs does once i get my new puppy [sirius] home... he already does it with his kitten [Digi]- him and Digi are constantly horsing around- he calls his hand digi's "worst enemy" because she will just attack him out of nowhere. meanwhile with me- she comes to me justto give me licks and get some belly rubs [she thinks shes a dog, btw lol] i think its just in our nature to want to protect our babies- but as long as your fiance is aware that being too rough can hurt him, dont worry urself too much, because boys will be boys... and im going to save this post for when i get my pup so i can take my own advice!! :] |
I would ask your fiancee to just tone it down a little bit. That's what I have asked Troy to do along with STOP antagonizing TJ (Troy likes to hold TJ back from coming to be with me and as a result TJ growls and snaps at him). Why men have to behave this way is beyond me.... I told Troy that we really have to try and stop TJ 'bad' behaviors b/c it is unacceptable and 'if and when' we have kids, I don't want TJ to show that aggressive behavior!!! |
I am the same way with my little ones. I dont like anyone playing rough with them . Im always afraid they will get hurt. |
