found maci's breeder! so the day i brought maci home i immediately decided to see if i could track down her breeder via. the sire and dam's names on her registration. sure enough i found them! they remember her! she seems like an awesome lady, we're friends on the good ol' facebook now and she is going to send me pictures of maci and her littermates as puppies. Maci was pick of the litter and held until she was a little older, but because she never grew the proper coat she was sold as a pet to the people I got her from. This lady has given me a lot of great advice already, i can tell i already have a lifetime of breeder support! A lot of what she has to say, I've even read on here... although I haven't asked if she's a YT member yet haha. But I'm very happy about what I've read on the lady's website, and the fact that she shows her yorkies and does not just breed them. They have had quite a few champions, and some of them are the most gorgeous dogs! She has told me of two pups that she has spent over 3000$ on, only to sell them for less than half that to perfect homes, I envy that. She has also told me she will see if any of her show-friends now any yorkie groomers near us and has given me info on pet insurance and dental work! She has been doing this for over 25 years and honestly, if I ever decide to get Maci a li'l fur sibling I know exactly where to look first :D I just wanted to say how happy I am to have a dog from a great breeder and from a breeder who is there for us even though we aren't the initial buyers! I feel like I bought Maci off her, she is just so nice to us! |
That is awesome! |
Oh wow, I so very happy for you and Maci. I know ithas to give you much comfort to know she came for a good breeder. So many out there don't, she is one lucky girl. :) |
That is awesome most breeders could care less about the pups after the money is in their hand n pup is gone! She sure is lucky What's her website love to check her pups out |
Wow thats great news and a good feeling :) You should let me know when u find out what groomers in your area as i aam an hour out of Edmonton and i dont want to take Mia to just anyone :) I would really appreciate it also about pet insurance cause i dont even know what is a good company or even where to start looking. |

Thats awesome :) |
Thanks guys :) she and I are very lucky because even though I didn't pay the 1600 for her originally or ever meet the breeder she is already offering so much great advice &help! It's quite comforting! I will send you her site later maci has had me up since 4:00ish lol so I am just checking my YT quick! :) |
Awwwwwww..... That is Great! I still keep in touch with Riley's breeder via email and Facebook. :) |
I am glad that you are getting the support and help of the breeder. My concern however, is how the heck did this pup get resold by the original buyer or I would assume it was the original buyer. Most show breeders contracts that i know of require absolutely that a pup be returned to them or a dog if it is older. REsale is prohibited and under my contract a substantial fine can be sought by me if someone resells or even gives away one of my puppies or dogs. I do have a few people that have agreements with me as to who gets the dog if something happens to them but I know everyone involved. |

Lorraine... actually this is one reason i also sought out her breeder, i had a feeling there was a contract involved due to her being champion sired, cost $1600 pet only, and that she was from showing lines. the previous owner had informed the breeder that they may possibly need a new home for Maci, but I guess didn't actually tell them they did it. The breeder did tell me about the contract, but said she felt good about me and that if I was ever in her area to come by for a visit as she'd love to meet me, and I could meet some of Maci's fur family! She has been great in this situation, as she knows and has kept contact with Maci's other owners for the past 2 years and knows they loved her a lot and wouldn't just give her to anyone, and the fact that I did try to contact her with in 48 hours of having Maci showed that I cared too. I am sure in a different situation with an owner the breeder didn't keep contact with as much or didn't know as much about the home, yes she probably would have been more upset and possibly enforced her contract. However she is working with me to make sure I am doing everything to be a perfect home! She has given me a lot of advice from dentals, to vaccines, to diet etc... a lot of what I already knew from reading here but some was new and helpful. :D Munchki... PetSecure is supposed to be the best in Canada. Their prices and coverages are more than reasonable too! |

Only exception my DIL( Who is an Lawyer), mentioned was a CO-OWNed Swissy and the judge ordered the defendant to pay 1/2 of the $1,300. he sold the dog for, to the co-owner. My contracts says the dog has to be returned to me, to be rehomed if they can not keep the dog for any reason. I also have a spay and neuter clause. I can NOT make them do either. Once I sell them the dog it is theirs by law. Their property. I can not sue them for custody or require them to follow through with any medical procedure. |
I believe what Teresa said goes for most states/provinces. If a person is providing care, food, shelter, water for an animal then in almost any case [especially if they have paid for it], it is theirs. If neglect can be proven then usually an animal will be surrendered or taken by authorities... whether the breeder will get the dog or a shelter just depends... I've been in a case like this with a foster dog, and if it does make it to court it can be messy and sad. Some cases may hold up in court if say, I was boarding Maci at a kennel for a month and I come back and she is missing. Mind you, I will never leave Maci at a kennel or with any "pet sitter" whom I do not know very personally or who is family. I think a good owner who has a good reputable breeder will often times be more than willing to honor the contract. In Maci's case I believe her owners were scared the breeder would be upset/disappointed that they couldn't keep her... but so far we are all getting along and no one seems upset. Maci's registration is even getting transferred to my name as well as her chip info and vet records. So I could have just gotten lucky to have easy people to work with... I know that if anything EVER happens and I can't keep Maci I would trust her with the breeder and respect that contract despite the fact I never actually signed it. But I plan on making Maci a part of our family in any circumstance, I believe a dog is just as big of a commitment as a child. |
Do you mind sharing her website? |
sure, Yorkhaven Home located in Calgary, Alberta. her website is a li'l outdated as far as some dogs have retired and some champions possibly not listed etc etc... but if you look at special yorkies there is one called Ally... spitting image of Maci! or vise versa lol. |

Yes!!! Ally and Maci are twins!!! they are both gorgeous!! |
Wow, you got lucky with your breeder! With what I read, it looks like she really cares and breeds to standard :D |
Yeah her girls that breed are 5-7lbs with the 6-7lb being prefered, which is why she was going to keep Maci. Her ideal dogs all around whether for pets, show, breeding are 5-7lbs as well. Some of her studs are obviously smaller too make sure the dogs don't exceed 7lbs as per standard. But she would NEVER breed for a litter to purposefully be under 5lbs. All of Maci's siblings are in that 5-7lb range except for one male that was 4lbs matured. She has a very short tolerance for the byb/mills that breed little 2lb males to 3-4lb females then sell them as MICRO MINI TEACUPS. So far it's been a good experience! |
Actually yes it can be enforcable but that will depend on a large part which country, state, province in the case of Canada you live in. However, I would much rather deal with someone looking for a nice pet that I can trust that I won't have to haul their but into court. That simple and yes I do turn down many for a puppy or dog. Pretty much everyone I sold to came to me because of the policy of they must come back to me. On some occasions, as I mentioned, a back up that I have approved is in place, usually a relative. In some cases, the spouse can't take on the responsibility and is only too glad I can be contacted the dog returned to me. There is nothing to worry aboutwhatsoever about a contract such as this as it would only be a problem if you are trying to get rid of the dog or puppy. |

I can't speak highly enough of Kathy and her knowledge. She is very dedicated to the breed and I'm sure you will be very happy with your new addition. I'm so pleased that you and Maci found each other and I hope you have a long and happy life together. |
Occy, no way! That is so awesome Cathy has seriously been so awesome about everything. She was so excited to see pictures of Maci and to accept me on fBook lol who were Howie's parents may I ask? I'll be in Kelowna, BC next week, too bad you didn't live closer because I would love Maci to meet Howie... I bet they are related somehow lol. Cathy does a great job of breeding back lines for health, weight, and coats! Maci just happened to be an odd ball lol. I wonder if anyone else on here has one of Cathy's yorkies lol! |
How wonderful that you found her breeder and that she is so great, what a blessing that is. |

Howie was born Feb. 24, 2011 to Violet and Prime (who is doing very well in the show ring at present). They are lovely dogs and you can see their pictures on her website. Howie is very much like Prime, tall and "handsome", if I do say so myself lol. Last time he was at the vet he weighed in at 5 lb. The vet seems to think he'll end up around 5.5 - 6 lb. He is going on the 24th for his "little snip", as per contract requirements. Ahhhh poor Howie !!!! Anyways, nice meeting you on YT and I'll look out for your "friend request" on f/b. |
