Yorkie Scent
 

Our Yorkies have no detectable scent by human standards from any sort of distance, but if you are holding them up to your nose they smell good to me, very faintly musky but hard to describe. Of course, we don't let them out alone and don't let them roll around in skunk poontang, something they enjoy at times and will indulge in, if you are walking them and don't keep an eye on what they are up to.

They especially like to rub their muzzles in skunky poontang, which is hard to see ahead of time and stop. When they do that, we wash their muzzles with anti-bacterial soap and water when we get back home, and that always has worked in getting rid of the temporary stink without having to give them a bath.

If they have not rolled on somthing nasty, do you like the scent of your Yorkies? :rolleyes:

lol.. well I actually call mine frito feet cause that is what they smell like

There have been fun threads on YT discussing our furbabies scent! I think Rio and Bullet smell wonderful. Kind of like line-dried laundry!

Yes, I love my girls scent, not like dog smell at all. It's...ummm...faint First thing I do every morning is roll towards Zhoie and take a deep breath to get my daily dose of Zhoie smell....kick starts my day with a smile. :D

I call it..the Yorkie smell!! I love it...I noticed that Bella's and Harley's scent is stronger in the mornings..aahhh :p

Remy used to have horrible breath... this is gross... the vet said it was because her anal glands were impacted and she licked herself ewwwwwwww and then kisses me ewwwwwwwwwww

I have heard of Frito feet... was it on this site?

Lexie smells good all the time, she usually smells like a mix of her conditioner and my perfume/body lotion. She doesn't have that typical dog smell either, i used to say dogs smelled like stale hot dog water but i guess yorkies are an exception

mt reine had Frito feet smell till i took corn out of her diet now we love the smell of her

I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes their Yorkies' scent (when they haven't got into anything disgusting, that is) :)

Interesting comments about "frito feet." Makes sense because thier pads are the only place they sweat from.

I feed mine Nature's Recipie for toy dogs, and it is chicken, barley, oatmeal and rice based, so its no wonder I have never encountered this frito thing. But then again, I only sniff the top of their head, just to be on the safe side:rolleyes:

I keep mine perfumed - bathed one/two weeks, conditioned/perfumed (doggie perfume, which I wore once myself and actually got compliments!!)
In the hot summer; however, after they've been running around, they'll stink like dirty sweat. Yuck.

My little Tezel smells good to me. Today was my first time showering him. It was really a wet experience. But after a long wet battle, it was worth all that hard work. He look so nice now with his hair all clean and fluffy. Btw, any tips on how to calm him down? I have that problem trying to comb his hair as well.

What's skunky pootang?? Lady parts or skunk parts? Skunk poo? Lol:rolleyes::p Bandit will start to "smell" after a while but Nala just gets a "sweat" smell even thought dogs don't sweat- it's not bad just kind of misty, and you can still smell her shampoo smell over it.

My girls HATED their first bath EVER...and still after several years... continue to HATE their baths!!! Don't have any advice...except that my girls KNOW after bathing, or brushing, teeth cleaning etc... they ALWAYS get a treat..I think that's helped them to chill thru the process...it did take a long time to get them to be calm...GOOD LUCK!! LOL :D

Oh and I just LOVE my girls scent...stinky or clean...LOVE IT!!

Well, I don’t really know what it is that they sometimes get into when we go on walks. The problem is, we have two, and when I'm watching one so I don’t lose track of the poop, sometimes the other one will score a patch of stinky grass. I have seen what appears to be cat poop that they could take an interest in, but other times, the grass that I have caught them wiping their muzzles on appears clean... but its not :(

So without doing a chemical analysis I have no idea really what they are getting into at times, although it often does smell like skunk, hence my scientific characterization of its chemical composition. :D

Our first Yorkie (who was a Yorkie Genius, incidentally), used to love to hunt crickets in the basement, when we occasionally got one in the house. He was an expert cricket hunter, and always got his prey, which was quite convenient for the humans who had a particular distain for these pests. The down side was that if you did not separate him from his fallen quarry, he would inevitably roll around in its guts… and then it would be bath time or at least a major clean up. He was not a muzzle rubber like our current guys, instead, he’d roll his back around on the dead cricket.

I was thinking about this post.. and i wanted to add...

When I take Remy to our vet he smells her. Picks her up and kinda of hugs her and sniffs her fur- it looks like affection..saying oh what a sweet pup. I though it was sweet.. but now I wounder if her smell gives him clues to her health?

I love the scent of Tatiana. She's curled up on my lap right now as I'm typing on the computer. Her scent is hard to describe. It's her natural, organic scent. It has a remarkable effect on me. :)

I love the scent of my two. They are bathed once a week and always smell fresh. I just smelled Couver's feet (he's laying under a blanket on my chest) and he has frito feet!! I can't believe his feet smell like Fritos lol.

And Shawnzeppi- poontang is slang for female parts :p lol

Dinky smells pretty nice, just a little doggy smell to him, but by the time he is ready for his bath, we both are calling him, "Stinky Dink."

My girl doesn't smell bad at all and never has. She has gone a couple of weeks before a bath and never has smelled. As far as calming her down in the shower, she doesn't try to "escape" anymore but she literally HATES the bath thing. Somehow she knows if I turn the water on and I am not undressing then the bath is hers...she tries to go and hide. If I even open her drawer with all her "stuff" in it she runs and hides. She's 1yr and 20months and I do not think she will ever like it.

Sophie smells good, unless she just ate. Bella is called the smella. Poor thing has an anal gland "issue" in that it issues a smell regularly, plus she is really short (think dacshund in a yorkie suit)and when she pees she gets it in her fur. Not a nice smell at all.:eek:

Oops. I did not know that, believe it or not I thought it had, lets say, a much more general meaning (just slang for animal stinky). But I checked the Urban Dictionary hoping to at least find other meanings, and they were not there. So I am sorry about that! If I could edit the post now, I would.:eek:

My girl Diasy sometimes has this issue, but its easy to detect and easy (but a little disgusting) to correct. I am quite sure there have been many other posts on the topic of anal glands getting clogged up. But in case its of any help to you, if I smell that metalic smell (its usually not a gross smell with my Daisy, but it does remind me of wet/oily metal, hard to describe but that's exactly what it reminds me of), I just squeeze around her butt, with PLENTY of TP, and the glands release their chemical. 99% of the time, there is no problem and the glands do their thing when she poops... but its really not that hard to correct when and if necessary, and its a lot better than putting up with the smell. And it must bother the poor little thing, becuase once I saw her pick her favorite part of the carpet and rub against, cleaned these glands and that solved the problem.

Cleaning of these glands when necessary is one advantage of owning a little dog. Doing this on a big dog, assuming they have the same issue at times, would truely be dirty job. :rolleyes:

Pnut always smells like dirty clothes or fritos! haha its a smell only a mother can love! :D

Daisy smells like bounce awakenings and fresh warm laundry , probly because she lays on the fresh warm laundry when I am folding it . :aimeeyork
