But........

Wiping butts is not something that should be happening or need to be done after pooping on a daily because of poop being stuck to the backside of your puppy. I have three pups and I can't tell you the last time that I needed to wipe a butt because there was poop stuck to the hair. It just should not happen if their poop is firm and hard from a good quality food.. If you need to put your pup into the sink to wash after or need to use baby wipes after pooping you need to look at what you are feeding him/her.

*After posting I notice that several others agree with me as well.
Well I wquld have agreed until about 2 wks ago, Razz is kept trimmed an further more is wrapped, but three days in a row he came in with poo stuck on the backside of him more over to his leg then directly underneath his anus. Wed training day, I talk to my breeder, and I said what gives? She started chuckling and said, I bet he is siding up to either some plants or the fence in your garden. So next morning I waited until it was light out, and as usual I walked out with him and watched him do his business, and sure enough the little stinker was setting his butt up against the fence.
So now before I let him out I spray conditioning sprays all over his little rear legs and but, and if he comes back in, with his business stuck to him, I bring him to washroom and it easily comes off and I quickly wipe.

About every other week I will have my husband hold Zeke up over his shoulder so that I have a good view of his rear. Holding the tail up with one hand, I trim his rear with sissors. Do not trim too close. Other than that, I use wet (with warm water) paper towel or put him right in the bath tub if his butt is really a mess.

I'm not sure about the quality of food having anything to do with the texture of the poop. Farrah eats Taste of the Wild kibble only and no table scraps, etc. Her poop varies by the bowl movement...sometimes solid, sometimes runny and always has a bit on her backside when she is done. I use Cottonelle wipes and flush them.
Good luck with the groomer.
It should not vary like that if that is the only food she is getting. No treats? No eating grass? A good quality kibble should give nice firm, low residue poops. If you are not getting that, I would change food. Not all pups do great on the same food, even top quality food. Sometimes they are sensitive to one tiny ingredient. Serious -- I cannot remember the last time my yorkies had a soft bowel movement -- I take that back -- the last time was when they got WAY too many treats from generous visitors. Now my Jack Russell has big time anxiety problems, will eat grass to settle her stomach and have loose BMs occasionally. But I know it is coming, because I see her eating the grass.

Thank you for the advice. I do appreciate it. The only thing I can think of is possibly the bully sticks. Bullies daily, once a week she gets a Petrodex chew stick and occassionally some coconut chips on her food or to practice tricks.
If you still think it is TOTW, can you recommend a good quality food? Thanks!

It's possible the bully sticks are causing some runny poop. Several other YT'r have had this problem. Chelsea gets a little runny poo if I let her have too much of a bully stick at once. What kind/brand are you giving her? Where do you buy them from? How long do you let her chew on one?

Have you considered getting some Himalyan Chews and alternating them with the bully sticks?

Nice warm bath. And keep it trimmed back their. Reggie ate birdseed the other day, the large birds made a mess in the yard all kinds of uneaten seed on the ground and Reggie ate it all. OMG what a mess I won't even tell you how bad it was.

Remy eats a Raw diet and we have no issues with poop being stuck to his backside, even if there is an extended time between grooming. I am not a trimmer BTW, he is a squirm machine and the last thing I am going to do is have pointy scissors in my hand aimed at his butt LOL....

He does get wiped down each night before bedtime (he sleeps with me) with baby wipes. Paws, privates (front and rear) all get a wet baby wipe-down before he snuggles up with us.

I'd second the suggestions above - look at food / treats if you are having a great deal of sticking issues. Trimming will certainly help, if you can do it. Finally, the wet flushable baby wipes are probably the easiest solution. And, they travel well too. I always have a pack in my car glove compartment for when we are on the road. They can be a lifesaver!!

Could be the bully sticks. Might try to go without them for a while and see if it makes a difference. If you decide you want to try another premium food, this post has a list with the addresses to request samples: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...e-samples.html

I know there are some who do not like one or more of the foods on the list, but I think they are all pretty good if your dog does well on them. Some dogs are sensitive to grain, some to additives, etc... So, one food does not work for all. I have used Canidae with great results. I love how it is an All Life Stage food -- meaning you can feed the same food to pups, adults, adn seniors. I have used Royal Canin with good results too and my dogs really like it. They tend to pick it out if I mix it in with their other food. Both of those foods resulted in the nice little compact, dry poops I was talking about. No messy butts here.

Default furbaby butts

I also use baby wipes, they are great for cleaning and freshening up little butts. One thing you said caught my eye. Your baby cries when you hold him to clean or trim his butt. These little furbabies are adorable but they are also very smart. Doesn't take them long to learn that if they fuss or cry mommy will let them go! My little one tried this with nail trimming. When I would hold her paw and she would try to pull away, she would cry. At first I thought I was doing something wrong but I soon caught on to her trick. When you are holding them to wipe their butt, you are not hurting them. Good luck with your baby and don't let him call the rules.
