| What do I do??? Precious is losing her puppy coat. A couple of weeks ago she started matting really badly. I tried conditioning her, brushing her, combing her and all with little success. Many of the knots just fell out and I felt like I pulled out half of her hair while brushing. Problem is, I've only gotten out a portion of the knotted mess . I'm considering cutting her fluff off but the more I mess with her hair, the more convinced I am that she's going to have a silky coat and not Cotten. I only come to this conclusion based on how silver her roots are and how thin her hair is. I wonder if it's thin bcs of how much I've brushed out. So I guess my question is would it be ok to give her a short buzz cut? If she's gonna have a silky coat I'm more hesitant bcs of how thin she may be at the base....

| Well, if you leave the knots in they could get bigger with her movements. If they get to big then they will start to pull on her skin and cause pain. A haircut is a quick solution, and regardless of what coat type she's going to be, it will grow back!

| Thanks for the quick reply. They're pretty tiny knots but there are a ton if them

| I really don't know much about Yorkies, this is my first and I know even less about coats BUT . . . We had 6 month old Nikko shaved about a month ago and I think he turned out pretty cute (I might be biased though hehe). His coat was very matted and no matter how much I tried to comb/brush it out, used detanglers, it just wasn't working. I took him to a highly recommended groomer and ask them not to shave him unless they had to . . . Of course they had to! I was upset at first but when I picked up him an hour later he looked adorable and they said he did pretty well with it, considering it was his first trip to the groomer. No mats to date (it's been a month). Here's a before and after . . . |

| Wow that's pretty much exactly how precious looks. I fully expect to see silver after her cut. Now my dilemma is deciding whether to cut her myself or bring her to a groomer.

| I keep Ziva trimmed short mostly because its so hot here , she swims every day and she doesn't have the patience for me to work out the knots(she is silver-y ,silky, fine coat) I do it myself and am getting better at it after a year! I tried to grow out her face and she just disappeared behind all that hair, we are used to seeing her cute face and expressions. |

| Haha, be my guest! I was quite happy with what they did! My only big request was they leave his face and "bangs" long so I can do a top knot! |

| Ruby's puppy coat was unmanagable, so puppy cut it was. 2 months later, whatever mats she gets are certainly easier to get out.
