Need Advice I have a 9lb. boy who has started some strange behaviors. He has always used the doggie door to go outside to use the bathroom or play in our fenced in backyard---now he is terrified of going back there. As a matter of fact, he won't go unless I carry him out, and then he'll just stand there looking at the ground like it's going to eat him. I realize something out there has scared him so I'm going out with him every time and really praising him if he pees---lately he's been peeing inside and he's been fully trained forever! My question is how do I get him to overcome this fear. I will go with him every time he goes out now, so if something is out there I can help him. By the way I also have a six lb. girl who is not bothered by the back yard at all---runs all over back there. Funny thing is if I take him in the front, he runs around like crazy--no problem, but I really need him to use the back, because it is fenced. Any advice on how to get him over his fear??? Sorry this was so long. Thanks! :animal-pa Cathy, mom to :aimeeyork Sarge and :aimeeyork Lexi :animal-pa Here is my Darling Boy |

He is very cute, I would just keep taking him out and reassuring him that it's ok. Hopefully someone else here will give you some great advice to help this cutie know it's safe outside again. |
Could there be a snake in your yard? I'm just grasping at straws here but it really does sound like he if afraid of something. How long has this been going on with him? As for the peeing inside I would suggest that you get some bellybands and nip that in the bud immediately. Keep doing what you are doing and maybe take a really good look around and see if you can find something in the yard that he is afraid of when he goes out. |
He is going to need reassurance for some time. A snake or something like that may have scared him. I would continue to take him out the back and praise like crazy and maybe give him a treat each time he goes. |
