I can hear a little puppy barking!!!! Ok I'm sitting here at my computer reading our threads, and I here barking. I know it's not Princess, because she's on my lap. So I go looking for this poor little puppy who won't stop barking. OMG!!!! It's Hellen, my son's African Grey Parrot!!!!!! That's all I need! I knew she could talk, she says a lot. But now she has a bark too!!!!! Her bark is the same as Princess's, I can tell this is going to be a long day! |
OMG!!! that is toooo funny!!!! Boy you are in for a long day and every day... |
:lol tears That is so funny. My sister has one too. It can sound like her cat, dog, ambulance, door bell etc... But the funniest thing I heard it say was when her boyfriend was leaving the house- my sister said to him, " see you later," and just when he was stepping thru the door, the African Gray parrot said, " And don't come back". :D Now we cracked up laughing because she apparently has said this under her breath when he leaves sometimes, but he wasn't too happy about it. So beware, you never know what sound they will make! |

LOL that is too funny! :D I think Hellen has watched too many football games with my son, because she says Touchdown a lot! I didn't even think about they can learn how to bark. Maxie is only a baby, she can only say hello & step up. But if she starts in too, It will be time to move them both in my sons room! LOL Forget about a long day, this could be a long year!!!! |
:lol tears That is hilarious! Now if the dog doesnt disrupt the neighbors maybe the parrot will! |
oh my goodness! well african greys are supposed to be one of the smartest birds, so it doesn't surprise me. but that's hilarious. hopefully your neighbors don't mind the new dog, I mean bird sounds. lol |

That is so funny! I have a Blue Crown Conure who talks up a storm. He also barks like Snoodles, but the worst thing he does is cry and whine like her. Naturally I come running in the front room and then he laughs like crazy! They are really something! Pat |
I have a conure also that talks -- and makes sounds. It says about 15 different things and makes barking and baby crying sounds.... Its never quiet over here!! |
Oh, we had an African Grey and still to have a macaw. They both talk, one even says bad words... Sampson and Gracie are scared to death of the macaw. |

Inovack! You are brave! Macaws are really awesome birds, but they have HUGH beaks and scare me. I would imigine they could take a finger off if they got mad! African Greys are really the best talkers, but I hear they are also the most feather pickers and sulk a lot, true? Pat |
My friend Andrew have one that can do the sound of door bell , you should see Heidi when she hear it . She run from the living room to the door . Poor little one , she never figured out , it was the parrot . |
omg hahahaha thats just too funny. good luck with double the noise! |
:p :p :p I had no idea birds could mimic animal sounds!!! If he were here he'd be chanting, "NO NO BAD DOG" :D |
That's hilarious, I had visions of a poor puppy under the house. |
That is the funniest thing I've ever heard!! :p |
LOLOL! I bet that was a site to see! Take a video of it...would love to see a bird bark! :D |
How funny!!! I went to my uncles not too long ago and he has halfmoon and at first I thought it was cute. But after a while ziggy would not shut up!!! I was hearing Oye chika. oh o, and it wasn't me,,,,, in my sleep. Every time anyone would pass by he would say Oye chika. I must have heard that about 1000 times in the few hours that I was there. |
LOL That is so funny. My sister had a bird that mocked the dogs barking. It drove her crazy, But it was funny at the same time. |
Double post |
Awe MANNNNNNNNN I have spent all week trying to teach my macaw to bark with NO luck. I've sung the song "How much is that doggie in the window", at least a zillion times the past few days...LOL She will dance when i sing it and she bobs her head when the woof woof part comes in but so far no barking :p :p :p Oh by the way to the person who posted about the big beaks and being scared..... My 5 year old can hold the macaw with no problem since the day we got it! BUT... we also have Senegal parrots which are 1/10thth the size and their bit hurts WORSE then the big macaws  . Macaws really have to be prevoked to bite HARD. They will nip and close their beaks on things but the tiny little parrots will chomp you and it HURTSSSSSSSSSSSSS. of course I'm talking in general and there is usually always an adjustment time. |
This thread is soooo funny. Thanks for the laughs everyone. :D |

When my son was little we had a dog he name Smokey and a cockatiel named Fred. Cockatiels aren't great talkers, but some of them learn a good bit. Anyway, Fred learned to bark and to call, "'Mokey, 'Mokey!" He couldn't make an "S". But he sure confused the dog! |
It's funny what you TRY to teach them and what the birds will pick up on their own. My friend has one that mimics his answering machine message....you know...."you've reached blah, blah, blah" This bird even beeps when he reaches the end :) |
How funny. How long does it take to teach a parrot to talk. Wasn't there a commercial on TV about a parrot calling "here kitty kitty". |
Sounds like a very smart bird to me. It must have been so funny. |
Great stories of the birds! As to how long it takes to teach a bird to talk, the first phrase takes a little while. After that they pick words up a lot quicker. I can tell when my bird likes what I am trying to teach him, because he gets real attentive, and keeps saying "What" or Huh? If he doesn't like the word, he will turn his back on me. I never realized they were as smart as they are! Everytime I start the microwave, he will start saying, "Mmmmm, Yummie!" And believe you me, he keeps it up until he gets something warm to eat. When he wants out of his cage, he will yell, "Come on, Come on, Come on, Pat" They certainly use words in the right context! If poor little Snoodles is making too much noise playing, he will yell "Don't Do That! Don't you do that! Bad Dog!" Pat |
Ha, ha, ha! Too funny! Yep, get used to it too cause African Greys are extremely smart & I guarantee that you'll be hearing your son's bird bark again! |
