Humane society,at my house So i decided to sleep in today and i got woke up at 8in the morning by a loud knock at my door by the time i got downstairs they wear gone but a neighbor told me it was the humane society and sure enough there was a little pink note on my door. someone called in that i have 6 dogs(true) and 8 cats (i have 3) and various other animals(i have a guinea pig) the report said that none of the animals had food or water or shelter i home cook for my dogs and, i have two bags of cat food in my cabinet. what kind of shelter is needed for inside pets? they never ever are left outside alone ever and the cats have not been outside since i moved in the law says you can only have 5 dogs in the city limit but i have a special release saying because our Maltese is so old and the pups wear raised together we can have the extra dog. i called and they said that they would be by later to inspect my property and pets this feels like an invasion of my privacy and now i get to be worried all day about what if i dont pass |
I've never heard of this before. As long as the city has given you a release you shouldn't be worried. Do your pups bark a lot? Do you suppose a nosey neighbor reported you? I would feel invaded, too. |
Don't worry. Let them come back and show them your paperwork and it will be fine. People have nothing better to do than make others miserable :( I am sorry about this. Try not to worry, it will be ok  |
my best-friends mom works in the same office building as the dog warden and they went to high school together so as long as you know the right form to fill out and the right person to approve it you can get what you want in my city |
I can understand your being nervous, after all these are your babies. It sounds like everything is in order, having the proper papers for the additional dog. Don't worry too much. I am sure everything will be ok. You sound like you have things in order and all your pet's are loved. I would be annoyed at who ever placed the initial call. It's nice to know the HS is doing their job and checking up on possible animals in need. Let us know how it turns out. Finger's crossed everything is fine. |
Do you have any mean neighbors? |

You are a consciencious pet owner ... many are not. The HS folks are doing their job, trying to ensure that there isn't any abuse going on. They are merely repsonding to a report. If conditions are as you say, you have nothing to worry about. If your pets get to the vet regularly, have THEIR number ready to give to the HS people, too, to support your side of the story. It's a shame that they have to waste their time with good owners, when there are so many bad ones out there. It appears that you either have a neighbor with an axe to grind over some perceived "problem", or one of them is genuinely worried about the welfare of your furbabies. Regardless, I, too would consider it an invasion of my personal space and privacy. Let's hope it was a concerned neighbor, not a vindictive SOB who's trying to cause you trouble. The former is a lot easier to forgive than the latter. |
Don't people know that yorkie owners are a different breed of people? You agree? I would be extremely upset if that happened to me. What does the humane society have to do with governing the laws anyway. Around here nothing. It would be a county code violation here if I had too many dogs. Your humane society would have any authority to proceed under and certainly couldn't have arrest powers. I think you should find out about their authority before I even answered to them. Don't allow them to trouble you if they don't have any authority!!!!! Please keep us posted I am very curious to know how this turns out. Best of luck to you. I'd like to investigate your humane society myself!!! Call me if you need me to! |

Was this an Animal Control or HSUS call. You by no means should let them into your home without proper court papers. Yoiu have the proper documentation. Meet them on your porch, ask for their identification.....oh! make sure your door is closed..... |

no, not a scam. i called the humane society and they said the report come from a concerned neighbor because in my area the humane society and ASPCA are basically the same thing they handle everything. i think it was a woman two doors down because when i refused to see my chi mix to her she told me i was being selfish and "had too many dogs already" and last year she made my neighbors get rid of there hound because she said he bite her but he was not even in the yard at the time the accident occurred i am giving everyone a bath and putting on a clean tee-shirt and just going to wait for the person to come and inspect i know im not doing anything wrong so they will see it too i called my vet and had her fax the humane society a report saying i home cook on a daily bases and there would be no food just sitting in the fridge (they wont eat it reheated) |
I would never let anyone into my home without doing a background check. Call the humane society and verify the identity of the person seeking entrance to your home. I would ask they make an appointment and have someone with you, also leash the dogs and bring them to meet in the yard. It sounds like you take real good care of your pets and have permission for an exta so you should not be concerned with the visit. Maybe a pesky neighbor is trying to cause trouble for you?? Good Luck! |
This isn't the HSUS - this is her LOCAL Humane Society: Welcome To The Stark County Humane Society Misslissa, if you have an exception and everything is on the up and up, it should be okay - they probably just need to confirm all of this, and it's a very good thing that shelters follow through on things - we need them to do this for animals. That said, I'm very sorry if this report is due to some vengeful neighbor, that's awful :(. Please keep us posted on how it turns out :). |
I wouldn't get mean and nasty with them, but I wouldn't be a pushover either. You are protected by the Bill of Rights: Amendment IV The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. I'd show the them all the paperwork they request, the food you have on site and give them your Vets info, but they wouldn't get passed my front door without a warrant. |
I agree that it dose need to be done because some reports are true im just annoyed and upset because i know my dogs are taken care of and i really think it was a neighbor trying to get back at me she also called city code on the old man across the street because his front porch was sagging and it was a violation of some thing or another they decided his porch was fine |
Please don't get upset with them, there only doing what is right. They have to check out every complaint. Some people just can't live without drama, if I were you I would welcome these people to do there job, show them you are not hiding anything. Then when this person calls again they will know that it is a false claim and they will take action against her. Your doing everything right and now there will be a record of that. Hang in there, Im sorry your upset, but you have the law on your side. |

Your local shelters are there to protect animals from potential abuse :(. If a person has nothing to hide, why put up roadblocks for people who are trying to do their job? These local Animal Officers see horrible things day in/day out - it is such a tough job to witness what they see. So, I just think it's sad to see people encouraging others to make their job even tougher :(. Sorry, just had to say this - as I've met/interacted w/ these officers (thru animals I've found here in Phoenix) and have the utmost respect for what they go through. Quote:

In my area, the Humane Society has zero enforcement authority so I would be wondering what they were doing at my door. If there's an animal related complaint, it would be the police to respond to it. Maybe it's different where you live. I think I would call them (Humane Society) to see what it's about rather than wait on a return visit. |
I agree, they are just doing there job protecting animals rights, and that is a good thing that we all want, right? So show them respect as you do appreciate what they are doing as a whole. You sound like you have all your ducks in a row, I would not worry. When they come, invite them in and show them what a fantastic job you do taking care of all your animals. Offer them a tour, and a tea! Let them see that you are not worried as you are in the right. Confidence is an assurance builder. Then when they are done touring, sit them down and bring in the paperwork. The old saying," You get more flies with honey than you do with vinegar", is an old saying for a reason.;) |
I have called the humane society and they said they would be back by three a neighbor made the report but they cant tell me who they said my tiny dogs wear left outside for 16 hours at a time and they had no food water or shelter and my cats wear always getting pregnant and i was keeping all the kittens until they died of starvation. of course this is all pure fiction i intend to let them in the living room(which is closed off from the rest of the house) and sit down while they look over my dogs and cats then if they say anything i will show my paper work i think im just so upset because this has to be a neighbor a person that i live near and talk to on a daily bases this was not just some person wondering by and trying to do a good thing because they heard my loud mouthed dogs barking like wear next in line at the slaughter house. |
Everything should turn out to be just fine. You take care of your pets and you get them regular vet care. I know the feeling of being invaded. I did in home day care and the state would show up for inspections any time they wanted. One time I had a parent (owed me a lot of money) that called a complaint on me, I just let them in and they did what they needed to. They were doing their job. Everything turned out fine but it was stressfull and fustrating. |

Maybe that complaint was an error. I wouldn't worry about it since you have everything in order. I think you shoud have another adult there with you when they come back. It's always good to have a witness. |
I had a similar thing happen except with social services and my skin babies but once they came in and seen everything was great they said that I probally just pissed someone off and they are trying to get back at me the only way that. Would really affect me this was 7 years ago and nothing came of it just stay strong and be honest and this will all just blow over. The biggest frusteration is they won't relase who the complaint came from so you can't even confront the person |

Let us know how it goes! It may seem like a lot of trouble at the time but in the end it's for ALL animals' rights and protection. Think of it this way... You will have 6 very clean babies to snuggle up with tonight. :) |
I use to live in Canton and I had no idea that the Humane society did this. I am sure that everything will be fine. :) |
this day could not get any worse so while i was waiting outside for the man to show up a little girl maybe twelve was walking her minpin or chi across the street the dog that lives in this house is viscous to small dogs (he was a dog fighting ring rescue) there are like a billoin signs up saying to be careful with dogs under 40 pounds well the little girl stopped to try and peek in the fence as i was yelling at her to get away from thear the dog jumped his fence and latched on to her dogs neck my best friend run across the street to try to break up the fight and i got the water hose the dog just would not let go the owner come running out of her house yelling at us to stop spraying the hose we would make her dog sick we finally get the big dog off we are all screaming and crying and i take of my jacket and pick the little guy up and run to my house just as the humane society van pulls up this guy asked if one of my dogs had been involved the little girl said no that i had just been a good neighbor helping out as i am in the house trying to see how bad the little guy is hurt the man is questioning my neighbors about weather or not my dogs are abused the little girl had called her mom and while i was on the phone with the emergency vet (did not want to waste time finding the number for thear vet) she told the man is no uncertain terms that they wear at the wrong house all my dogs wear sweet and kind in the end we made a appointment for 1100 thursday and he took the woman's dog away little guy(i forgot to ask his name) seemed fine he just had two gashes on his neck one was swelling up bad when they left im waiting to see how he dose at the vet i think i have made a enemy out of another neighbor i might have to move. |
