Confused Have you ever been really upset with your Yorkie?

I was last Friday. Buddy gave me such a hard time when I left for work
I went back in the house and took his treat from him and left him
with nothing! I was so mad at him. After getting up at 6am walking him
right away, came back to feed him then sit for 1/2 hr drinking coffee
and playing with him and walking him again at 8 am before leaving for work, that when it was time for me to leave he whinned, cried and kept
hitting the closet door with his paw making it wiggle and make a slamming
noise. All this AFTER using rescue remedy. It was just one of those
days. I was running late facing bumper to bumper traffic and he was
not helping me, at all. I was so frustrated the only thing I could think
to do was take that dumb treat and throw it in my pocket book.
When I slammed the door and left him he never made another sound.
I felt so guilty all day with the treat in my bag.
Wonder what he thought about that? He's been better since but every
so often he tests me and that day I just wanted to strangle him.
Ever have a day like this?

I must admit only once in 18 mths and that was when she was a pup and ripped a piece of wallpaper off my newly decorated dining room.I wouldn't let her cuddle me throughout the day. Such a mean mummy lol. Silly really because she only ever had 2 mistakes in the house , potty training !
Since that day I have never even raised my voice to her, she is a pleasure to be around .

They are so much like toddlers!

You told that so well that I could picture the whole thing as it was happening. Well, I'm sure I've had similar things happen when I was rushed. Can't put my finger on anything in particular at the moment though. Usually they have to go potty just when you need to leave, ya know?

OMG your so right. I always said Buddy was like a two year old that
never grew up. He's such a wonderful love but want's his way
when he wants it. I think I acted more childish than he did, dog
or no dog. He had my head in a spin that morning.

I know how you must have felt but things like this they fortunately outgrow.
Bud is 6 now and he's just Bud, want's his way when he want's it.
Much like a spoiled brat I guess would be appropiate. Other than this
he's just perfect.

One of the funniest things I read in "The Complete Yorkshire Terrier" was that a Yorkie can make you lose your patience and composure one minute, and have you on your knees begging for forgiveness the next minute.

Carol, I swear Buddy and my Teddy must be related. They are both in the Terrible two all the time. This made me laugh as I never get mad at any of the other yorkies but my Teddy pushes me to the edge. I threw a soft toy at him this morning when he jumped on me and spilled the puppies food. He grabbed the toy and though I was playing. But you know your Buddy and my Teddy are such special big boys you gotta love them.....

Buddy will be fine without his treat but you'll worry all day now.....we can't win...

Can you imagine having them both under one roof? Twins!
I'd be on valium for sure.
No one, who does not own a Yorkie, would understand this
breed, at all!

At leaset she allows you to put her coat on. I have to catch Buddy
4 times a day, 28 times a wk! He hates coats.
If I could only get this on video I don't know weather you would
laugh or cry, for me I mean.

I'm going to admit that sometimes I get frustrated with Thor. He is so scared of EVERYTHING. He's scared of his harness. He's scared of me leashing the harness, even though I've tried pretty much every approach and posture I can think of to make it seem less scary for him. God forbid I'm carrying a purse.

Most of the time, I really want to help him be less fearful, because it seems like such a stressful way to live, but sometimes, I'm like COME ON, it's just a ball point pen!

Anyway, I think as expressions of frustration go, taking a treat away is pretty mild. We all have bad days sometimes. Maybe it would help to think that Buddy is not trying to drive you crazy with the door - he just thinks you haven't noticed you need to open it, and he's come up with this really brilliant way to tell you.

Hang in there! You'll be loving on him soon enough.

I only remember one time being REALLY frustrated with him. He was probably around 6 months old and we were sleeping at my dad's house (where he had been sleeping since 9 weeks old once a week, sometimes more) and just would NOT sleep. I had exercised him all day long, he should have been exhausted. But it's like when he's over there, he doesn't wanna miss anything (they have 2 dogs and 2 cats) and maybe it was just sooo much for him. He woke me up 4x in the middle of the night (keep in mind: I never had this issue with him, he's pretty much slept through the night since 15 weeks old). I would let him out, then he wouldn't come back in, he peed on the floor, omg, I was sooo mad at him that night! That's honestly the only time I can remember just being pissed.
