I feel horrible... Hi everybody... Well I finally got my new puppy after 6 months of research and preparation. But I have a problem. I've only had him for one night, and I feel as though I don't want him anymore. Like this wasn't what I pictured it to be. I was so excited a few days ago that I couldn't sleep, and now the excitment is gone. I just don't know. I mean, yes he's cute, but that isn't everything. What if I can't take care of him? What if something happens to him, and I can't do anything about it? I've been wanting a puppy and knew I was ready, but now that's he's here, I don't think I can do it. I'm crying as I type all of this. I don't know what to do. I mean, how can you give back something you pretty much begged for. I can't do it!!! I'm just bawling my eyes out because can't believe I wanted something so much, and now I don't. Someone, please help! I need to figure this out... Thanks for reading... |
Did you meet your puppy before you brought him home? Sometimes no matter how prepared you are if you don't wait for "the one" this is the kind of result you get. :( Do you know what it is that is different than what you expected? My heart is breaking for you. I can tell this is reall tearing you apart. |
What is it that u feel so bad about? |
Wow, I think you should give him back, if you truly feel that having a puppy isn't for you, it would be the best thing for both of you. Yes, it is a lot of responsiblity, we always have to be prepared for things like health problems that may arise. Like everything in life we really don't know what the future will bring, good or bad, we can't dwell on the what if's..If you do think you want the puppy, be 100% sure and take things day by day and just love him, hope for the best and prepare for the worse, that's life:) |

If I am wrong, please feel free to clear it up. I took some liberties in speaking on your behalf. |
Also I should add, maybe you are just feeling overwhelmed right now?, because having a pet is a big responsibilty, give it a couple more days, you may feel much better! You have lots of support right here on YT! Cheer up, things will be okay :) |

Maybe I am feeling overwhelmed...not sure just yet. I'll try for a week or so and if I definitely think I can't do it, I may have to give him back. If that's possible. Thanks, I always knew YT would be here when things go wrong. |

Haha probably! Thanks for helping! I will give it my best :) |
When I first got Libby I wasn't very thrilled. My son was very ill & in & out of the hopital & I was very depressed. My husband & step-daughter got the chance to adopt a pair of yorkie sisters at an unbelievable price and, against my wishes, went through with it. Needless to say the first few months it was like having a newborn baby in the house! It has been nearly a year now and Libby is the light of our lives! She has a way of keeping us amused and can always chear me up! |
I never wanted to give Laci back , however I was overwhelmed and scared, expecially reading on here all the things that could and have gone wrong with peoples puppies, I was really scared and I started to focus on those things instead of my healthy precious puppy... I started thinking omg , what if she has liver shunt , she had kennel cough and I kept thinking OMG its collapsed trachea, I was really scared, then I snapped out of it, its no different when you bring home your first skin kid, your up all night, you have no social life, you change diapers and your overwhelmed, but once you get into a routine, your fine.... I just thought of all the fun , how much I loved her, how cute she was , and how we could have years and years together and to enjoy each day as it came... well here we are a year later and she is the light of our lives... But , if you dont change your mind and you feel overwhelmed , please give it back to the breeder.. puppies really are alot of work and if you dont feel like you have it in you then take him back to the breeder ;);) |
I agree it is overwhelming at first. A couple of weeks after I brought Lucy home (we already had a dog) I wondered if perhaps she would not be better off in another home. But I decided to give it time and now I could not be separated from her for anything. I definitely felt that way when we brought our Westie home. I didn't want a Westie - my son did. And he was sooo stubborn and not really loving at first - believe me - many times I questioned that decision. Ringo and I really didn't bond until we started agility training; truly I don't think we liked each other much. But, our bond grew, and training got easier . . and all the pieces finally came together. Now, he's my best walking buddy and we keep our bond that way. I think you should give it some time too. Play with your puppy; don't just focus on the work involved. There's a lot of fun and joy too! |
