Need Advice - Baby Boy Yorkie All- I need some advice, my friend just called me and asked me if I wanted another Yorkie puppy. From what I understand someone she knows bought a Yorkie puppy for Christmas (about 4 months old). Well as we all know puppies are work and I guess to much work for them so they are keeping the poor baby locked up in a bathroom all day and night. My gut feeling is I am taking this puppy, no matter how much work a baby does not deserve to be locked in a bathroom. My problem is I am not really ready for another dog, long story but I have an older cat and I cannot do that to him. So this is where I need the advice, I want to get the puppy and keep him with me for at least a few weeks so I can get his shots UTD and make sure he is healthy and then rehome him (if possible). Am I being emmotional and making a knee jerk choice? I want to do what is best for the puppy. I just feel that living in a bathroom 24/7 is not good. Please some more experience Yorkie owners please advise me on what the right action would be. Thanks, Cheryl (Sophie Kates Mom) |
If it was me, I would certainly get him and do what I can to find him a suitable home. I would be afraid that if they keep him locked in a bathroom, then they would be the same type of people who would drop him at a pound. Poor baby.. THIS is EXACTLY why reputable breeders will NOT place puppies as Christmas presents. The newness wears off and off to the pound (or locked in a bathroom or outside, etc) they go.. OK remember you are hearing this from someone who already owns 4 yorkies plus has 2 1 month old babies right now. lol.. so what is one more?? |
Thats what I would do! lol:D But keep in mind, it might be, being given up for health reasons, and you may fall in love... ;) Are you prepared for both of those things?? |
I am on my way to check him out. Seriously I wonder if dognapping is a crime in Georgia. People make me mad (edited from p*## me off). |
wonderful your doing this either way I would take him for sure you can always find him a home, get him checked ( I personally would not be able to do this and then give him away) always thought someday when I'm home full time have a rescue home, but I would end up keeping them all! he he! good luck hope it works out for you and the puppy....breaks my heart I leave mine to go to work and feel guilty. ugg what is wrong with people... |
Post pictures when you get him home!!! lol:p;) |
I hope you get him! Just look at it as fostering until you can find his forever home. |
You may be able to find him a home right here on YT. |
I agree with everyone else on this one... Take him home and let him see how life should really be. I'm sure you will find him a great family... possibly even one one here! |
Your are probably in love already:D |
If you are able to "not keep him" then you are stronger than me. Just yesterday I received a message on facebook that a friend of theirs had a 10 month old Yorkie they needed to get rid of (for 50.00 bucks). She sent me pictures, he was precious, but I knew I couldnt make a life long committment to him without my husband approving. He is out of town. YES, I would have provided an awesome home, but he would have never left. I would have fallen in love and kept him. LOL I have 3 and my 4th coming on Saturday. The 4 of them must be my priority. I hate that people do this, BUT I know I cant save them all. I really wish I could! Good luck and cant wait to hear how it goes! |
Good Luck. I can see how easy it is to love these babies. I am awaiting the arrival of my first and dream of it each night. Crazy much?! lol |
Well I returned home without him. First the puppy is not four months, he is closer to a year old and not neutered -nether of which is a problem. something I can very easily take care of. Also he was "not sure" if the dog was UTD on his shots (I assume no). This is the dog second home within a year, he was recently purchased as a Christmas gift Problem is the current owner is attempting to get "top dollar" for him by attempting to sell him on Craigslist. That part really scares me, gosh only knows who will get him. He is also willing to barter for him, so I offered up a brand new in the box HP Laptop (It is just sitting in my closet, a Black Friday purchase that I didn't need but the offer was to good to refuse). Morally I feel like crap offering a piece of technology for a living breathing soul. However, I do not want this dog to get into the wrong hands and the fact he is not neutered really concerns me. I kind of lied (okay I flat out lied) to the owner and told him I knew a lot about Craigslist and most people who look on Craigslist want the dogs to be spayed or neutered so he should remove that from the posting. I am going to keep pressuring the man who has him, hopefully he will get sick of me and accept my offer. He happens to be my friends sons FIL so maybe that will work to my advantage also. Keep your fingers crossed. I really feel this is the right thing for me to do even if I am trading a stupid computer for him. I need to keep checking Craigslist and to see if the ad is still posted. Thank you, Cheryl (Sophie Kates Mom) |
WOW! How much does the guy want for him! That is so crazy! |
I understand how you must feel about this little guy!! I say do whatever you have to do to get him. Poor little fellow. Good luck! |
I really hope you get this poor puppy. Please keep us posted! Sounds like this little guy's had it rough in his short life. He needs lots of love. |
I hope you can get him too. Poor little guy... having too many homes can mess their heads up! |
I pray this guy comes to his senses and you get to bring him home until you get him vet checked and neutered. This poor little one has had a rough start in life and will need someone kind and patient to help him adjust. I think you're his Guardian Angel and will do what is best for him!! Blessings to you, Jodi:) |
I wanted to give you all an update. The man did come to his senses and my friend (the lady who originally told me about him) has adopted this little boy. I promise you all she will be an excellent Yorkie owner. She has had pets for years mostly cats in fact she is the one who rescued my Avery cat originally and talked me into adopting him 12 years ago. I think this little guy was sent to her for a reason, she is an "empty nester" and will be single again very shortly, she needs someone to love and spoil. Her first steps are to get him to the vet today or tomorrow and get his health check and UTD on shots. Next will be the neuter (she promised me she would neuter him ASAP). I am very happy for her, when we met him yesterday she seemed to really be taken in. We discussed me fostering him for a few weeks while she got to know him but she decided it was best just to get him to her house and start being his mommy. For those who wonder about the cost, she paid the man $500.00 for him (the man was not budging on the price). I guess no family discount for her. I slept better knowing he is comfy inside one of Sophie Kates many "extra" crates, sleeping and probably being woken up by his Mom every two hours. Thank you all for your advice. |
I love happy endings! |
Thanks for a happy update!!! |
That guys sounds like a jerk. Locking him in the bathroom because he made the wrong decision? Trying to rid himeself and get top dollar. Poor doggie. I hate when people treat dogs like a piece of meat. I'm glad your friend got the dog and I'm sure she will provide a much better home for him. I have three now and I know my hubby would probably flip but I would have been like you and tried to take him in as well. |
I'm so happy to hear this little guy finally has a forever home! |
