OMG Look what my baby swallowed!!! 1 Attachment(s) So on Christmas Day I dropped Bailey off at my parent's house like I always do so I could go to my boyfriend's family for a little bit. On the way home I called to let my mom know I was on my way to pick Bailey up. My mom said "I have something to tell you". My stomach fell into my feet because I could tell by her voice that something wasn't right. She said Bailey swallowed a bone. I immediately started to freak out. I said how did that happen? They have their garbage under the counter, so how could he possibly get in the garbage to swallow a bone???? Well they had a bag hanging out and they turned away for 1 min. and that's all it took. I said "he's a toddler" turning away from him is not acceptable, this could kill him! I took Bailey home in tears and didn't fall asleep til 4:00am. at 6:00am I woke up and looked around for Bailey (he was sleeping by my head). I also saw some strange object in the corner. I went over to it and it was the bone. HE HAD THROWN IT UP! My poor baby had to throw it up and I wasn't even awake. I'm so glad it's out of his system now though. I fed him and gave him water and he started to have a little bit of the runs so I asked my dad to get canned pumkin. He called me from the store and can you believe there's a shortage in IL of canned pumpkin???? UGH! I told him, I need some pumkin! Bailey has IBD & Chronic Pancreatitis so there are no room for errors in my book. So my dad called me and said he had found some pumpkin. I gave some to Bailey and he didn't have any more bathroom probs. He's been fine ever since but i'm still watching him closely. He gave me quite a scare!!!! |
Poor little guy. At least he was able to get it out. I hope he is feeling better! |
Oh wow, that really is scary!! I am so glad he is doing okay. It sounds like he has the prefect, loving and 'on-top-of-it' mommy! Huggs |
Poor lil guy! I am glad he is better now! That would be quite a scare! |
Aww, what a poor baby. Glad to hear he is doing better! :) |
Yes they are very quick to be in the trash... you were very lucky this time. So glad things turned out allright! |
Yeah, I couldn't even imagine throwing up a bone that size! You can't tell in that picture, but the bone is the size of my thumb but thicker!!! We got so lucky!!!! Our prayers were answered!!! |
I am so glad he was able to get it up. I heard there was a shortage of canned pumpkin. |
There better not be a next time! I told my parents if they're going to watch him they have to treat him like a child. He's a toddler that will never grow up. I child proof my house everyday constantly making sure he's safe! Quote:

So sorry for your little guy. What we have to go through as parents to these little furbabies! Glad all turned out well. |
You must have been out of your mind with worry. I'm glad Bailey is fine, poor little guy. :-( |
Very, very glad to hear he is OK! Don't be too hard on the parents, things happen so fast... I've had to pull bones out of Remy's mouth quite a few times. You would not believe how many random chicken bone / parts get discarded on Baltimore city streets. Walking him requires the utmost diligence. He finds them everywhere! One evening he found picked up a half-eaten wing and it took me quite some time to get it out of his mouth. I was on my hands and knees on the sidewalk, basically prying his mouth open to pull it out. He had it almost half down his throat, the thing was like 2 inches long. This woman with a small schnauzer stopped to try to help me. Its bad enough that I have to worry about Remy swallowing these da*ned things, but then I get to thinking that I've got some strangers germs all over my hands to. Disgusting! At least yours had "family" germs! |
Wow!! What a scare  It is amazing that he was able to vomit a bone of that size!! I'm glad to hear that he is okay now... |
I never thought of it that way... it's both disgusting and almost laughable in the aftermath. Quote:

Hi Bailey, Glad hear that you are feeling better. I agree that trash can be tempting. Just a few weeks back, I licked the chicken fat drippings my momma skimmed off the top of her poached chicken for Chicken noodle soup. It was only there for about 2 minutes before Mom closed the bag and made daddy take it outside so I had to act fast :D. Boy did I regret it when we went out that afternoon for our daily errands. :( Momma was wishing she had gotten those leather seats in her car instead of the soft cloth ones  Bentley :aimeeyork |
Hi Bentley, Thanks for the well wishes. I don't know about you, but after I threw up that bone, I didn't want anything to do with it. I stayed away from it, as far away as I could get. I stayed close to my momma's side the whole weekend like I always do when I'm sick. I'm glad you're feeling better from the drippings from the chicken soup. It doesn't seem like we learn our lessons... Quote:

Pumpkin? I am so glad your baby is okay. Our Penny puts everything in her mouth and it scares me. Can you explain what the pumpkin does. I have seen others refer to pumpkin but don't understand. I myself love pumpkin and it will give me the runs. LOL. |
O boy what a scare, so glad he is okay....I hate leaving Shay with anyone, for fear something like this will happen, I know could happen with me too, but like you have said, I child proofed my house too... |
Thanks for your kind words. For dogs canned pumpkin (just a teaspoon) it seems to calm down their tummy. It helps firm up their stool or it will also help them go to the bathroom if they are having problems going. It's one of natures miracles (in my opinion). It's one of the first things I grab whenever Bailey is sick with the runs and has always helped! I hope that has answered your question, but i'm sure there will be others on here that will also answer better than me... :) Quote:

Also, once you open the can, use a spoon or melonballer and scoop out the pumpkin and freeze them in little individual serving size balls for next time. That way you don't have to throw away any or buy a new can every time and already have them on hand. They seem to like the frozen pumpkin too. |
Glad Bailey is doing better. Once Uni found a chicken bone on the carpet (thanks to BIL) and when I took it away from her she growled like it was the best thing she ever had tasted in her life. Oh she was so PO'd. LOL |
Thanks for the tips, I really appreciate it! :D Quote:

Thank God your Bailey is ok...I know how scary that have been for you. |
Oh My! That is huge...for a Yorkie. I am so relieved everything turned out as it did. |
