Capone is a teapot yorkie and I love him to death and couldn't imagine a more perfect dog fot me. He is a little less than 10 lbs and has adorable floppy ears. He has a beautiful shiny silver coat. People always say he's too big to be a yorkie he must be a silky. Usually if people say what breed, a silky? I just shake my head and say yes. I personally don't really think there is a major difference in the breeds and I don't really care.

But the other day I was at obedience class and a lady says oh is he a silky, I just say yea and move on. Well during introductions I introduce him as a yorkie, the lady that previously asked if he was silky rudely interupts me and says I think he looks more like a silky than a yorkie, he's not as small as most yorkies. It's my dog and why does it matter to her?! My yorkie may not be a perfect standard but he's my yorkie, he could even be a silky and I wouldn't care, but I just thought that was so rude of her!

If you made it though the class ...My hats off to you! I would have been so mad. Some just think they know it all!

people always say Molly must be part yorkie part westie, because she is chunky. She is pure yorkie, but just a bit (ok, a lot) bigger than the norm. :)

Yorkies are like people--they come in different shapes and sizes. Some are rude and some have been to obedience class!:D

LOL. I just said excuse me and kept speaking. It was really hard to make it through the rest of the class. I was just mad that she was so rude. tisk tisk.

I have been told about 282727227 times that "Oh, he looks like a Silky!" about Jackson. I don't even care. He's 12.5lbs so people automatically think there's no way he could be a Yorkie. I have reason to believe he's probably mixed w/ Silky but I do think there's some Yorkie in there. I purchased him from a non-reputable breeder so he very well could be mixed with something else or simply a badly bred Yorkie. Either way, I love him the way that he is and wouldn't WANT a tiny little Yorkie. I would worry far too much. I like Jackson the way he is and wouldn't change a thing. :)

Ours came with papers and is 7 pounds at 3 months old already! He is going to be a bigger Yorkie, but the papers SAY Yorkie. We're wondering if somewhere down the line he may have some Silky in him, but he' obviously not a standard Yorkie. I'd like to know if he's one or the other for my own good, but that's because i'm obsessed with knowing- at the end of the day... WHO CARES!!!!!!

He's not a show dog, he's our PET.

He has droopy bigger size ears, he's a bigger size yorkie, and although people look at him and say Yorkie!! He doesn't fit standard sizing... oh well. I guess we'll know more when he grows up.

Let the Yorkie snobs say whatever they want :)

Capone was obviously not bred to fit the standard and could possibly be a silky or anything else, he could be part cat and I wouldn't care, lol. But he's exactly what I wanted when I started my search for a pet. I bought him as a yorkie so thats what he is to me :D. Theres a standard that we have, but it doesn't mean if they don't fit the exact standard they aren't yorkie. I agree that if he was any smaller I would fear for his life everyday because he's a rough little thing. 9.5 lbs is far from a huge dog :)

It's so hard to tell a difference. I've read and looked at hundreds of pics and the all look the same to me. Some may disagree, but I don't see a noticeable difference. Except that people say size, but just like people they are all different in shapes in sizes.

That's the spirit!!!! lol

Prince and I went to Pet Smart yesterday, and one women said that Prince was "soooo small" and "every yorkie she had ever seen was bigger than him." I said he's within standard and she just looked at me. You see, you can't win.

My husband and I were sitting there staring at Derby's nose/stout going is it longer ? but this Yorkie at 3 pounds has the same nose as Derby? and this SIlky doesn't look anything LIKE Derby? and this one does? and so does this Yorkie? I mean at what point do you just say do we really CARE?... They look identical as puppies, and aside from size and length, how do you even tell? a DNA test? Our papers say Yorkshire and we paid $1000 for our "Yorkie", and he was the biggest of the litter and no one really wanted him :( He was "cheap". He didn't have those tiny ears, and he wasn't standard sizing and the guy keeps growing. Maybe he's just a big guy! or maybe there is Silky in the family for all we know.

My husband set out to get a bigger Yorkie in the first place ('health reasons" and he didn't want a "pocket dog"), and that's exactly what we got. If you go and read the "What has your Yorkie done for you thread" You'll read my funny little story about how I was never a "dog person" until Derby came into our life. My husband surprised me this guy after I picked out what kind of dog I wanted off a list of possible small dog breeds offline. To make a long story short, I wanted a cat and said as long as our dog was the size of one! I would get a dog. (I have scars on my hand from being by a dog badly, you get the point)

At the end of the day, I love him and last night I spoiled him and let him sleep with on the couch! out of his bed! because I was sick with a fever and want cuddles... I can't imagine my life without him!!!

And another thing ;)

When I first posted here- I asked people here if they thought Derby was a Yorkie, because I was getting mixed responses by random people. Mass response on THIS VERY BOARD was that they thought he was a Yorkie! but as he's growing up, and fast! and much bigger, and longer! opinions are changing... well ~ funny how that is eh? Just saying!

I have a teapot too and when people ask what she is I say shes a bigger yorkie and I have never had anyone I dont think say anything rude but I always say shes just a bigger yorkie but one time I was buying a shirt for her and it was a medium and the sales lady asked me what i had and I said a bigger yorkie and she goes oh I have seen some of those fat yorkies and that kind of bugged me because Callie is by no means fat and the fact that she automatically though oh fat yorkie bugged me.
