hair club ofr yorkies?

My boyfriend got my little yorkie boy(CsiCsu) for B-day last month.
Yorkies are expensive in NYC, so we searched on line and found breeder in TX and supposely he's well known and trust worthy.
Since we are in NYC, we purchased CsiCsu on breeder's website("yorkiepup.com"). CsiCsu looked so cute on website and in the pictures we requested the breeder. Breeder told us that he's very health and he has no problems what so ever. However when we got CsiCsu, we thought he was ugly little rat:eek:!!! He had really odd hair(some very short some very long)and he never had hair cut. For 5month old yorkie, he had really thin hair. It's been about a month and his hair's still very very very short:confused: My vet told me that some small yorkies have issues with their hair and I should just wait and see. I've giving my other yorkies "dream coat" oil and it's working great, but I'm not sure if it's working for CsiCsu. Thin hair is problem not only for looks, but also for health(he's always cold)
CsiCus is 6month old 5" tall 6" long 1.8lb
does anyone have yorkie with thin or weird hair?
I would really appreciate your story or advise...
I can not attached pics because it too big...
I put some pics of him from yesterday on my album

Isn't this breeder Jeff Dane? I hope this puppy gets a very thorough vet check, as this breeder has a long history of very sick pups. If you search "Jeff Dane" on this site, you will see.

As for the fur/hair, it's hard to say...puppy coats can change in terms of color, as is expected, but thinner coats will usually stay a bit on the thin side. But there is always a chance that your pup's coat will thicken a bit. :)

chachi 05-18-2009 06:44 AM

If you got him at yorkiepup and his only problem is thin hair Id be happy if I were you. He sells sick pups

Ladymom 05-18-2009 07:01 AM

Oh, dear. Not only is YT full of complaints about Jeff Dane, there are several on Rip Off Report, too:

Rip-off Report: Jeff Dane puppy farm puppy mill Dodd City Texas

Rip-off Report: Jeff Dane - yorkiepups.com Puppy Mill and a man out for money not the love of yorkies Ripoff Dodd City Texas

Rip-off Report: Jeff Dane Yorkiepup.comJeff Dane Sold me 2 teacup yorkies that were suppose to be under 3lbs. Paid $4500.00 us for one and 1200.00 for the other. plus shipping . These yorkies are over 8lbs. They are not teacup Dodd City, Texas

The Better Business Bureau has four complaints against Jeff Dane.

OH MY GOD!!!!
I'm really sorry that I didn't know about Jeff!!!
I heard about him from people I meet every morning in central park and they told me that they got their puppies from him and he's a good breeder! I should have known better!
I took CsiCsu to the vet the day I got him and he was checked fine.
Wow... I should have asked you before I got him!!:(
Jeff sounded kinda mean over the phone, but I never imagine he would sell sick puppies!!! and PUPPY MILL!!!! I feel so guilty now....
I appologize to all animal lovers out there....
If you can, please check his pics on my photo album and let me know what you think of it...
Thank you so much everyone:yorkietal

chachi 05-18-2009 11:26 AM

There is nothing to appologize for! My first breeder I bought from wasnt a good one either. Just be glad your pup is happy and healthy because others havent been so fortunate and some of those have posted their experiences on here. If you do a search on here about Jeff Dane it will pull up alot of threads

pawever Yorkie 05-18-2009 11:30 AM

Thank you for your infos...
After reading all those reports, I am horrified about what I've done...

ChantalB 05-18-2009 11:31 AM

Don't feel bad everyone can make mistake.

You know better now...

Keep your dog on top food.

Bio Groom fluffy puppy might give a little fuller look to the coat...

Jeff fed CsiCsu eukanuba, but I changed it to wellness super 5 and he loves it:) and I give him organic treats. Should I do blood check to get detailed info on his health?

I would absolutely have a bile acids test done to check for liver disease since it is so common in Yorkies.

The problem is that most "genetic time bombs" poorly bred dogs carry don't have markers that show up in blood tests. My Lady is a poorly bred rescue and had both epilepsy and diabetes. Neither one can be screened for. She was perfectly healthy for the first 4 years of her life until her genetics caught up with her.

pawever Yorkie 05-18-2009 12:25 PM

Visited vet today, and he told me "CsiCsu MIGHT BE YORKIE/CHIWAWA MIX!!!!!" WTF:eek: I got ckc paper for yorkie, but could it be fake paper??? since its from Jeff Dane. Now what? should I do DNA test?!

Thank you for your advise... :thumbs upIts scary to know how one bad breeder can ruin so many lives of poor animals and their human parents...

Since the MARS DNA test was developed for mixed breed dogs, not purebred dogs, I doubt it would be admissible in court.

Sounds like you'd have to get in a long line to go after Jeff Dane anyway.

Bottom line is that if you don't buy a Yorkie from a reputable breeder who is carefully breeding to the standard, chances are he may not look and act much like a Yorkie is supposed to.

Patti 05-18-2009 02:12 PM

Don't feel bad, many of us have bought puppies from bad breeders, before finding YT. Hopefully your baby will continue ot be healthy which is the main concern for a puppy from a place like that. He is cute he just mmay not get a long coat, or it may come in more as he matures.

mscat 05-18-2009 03:21 PM

I went to your album too. Your pup looks like a yorkie to me . I hope he stays healthy. It is not your fault about the breeder! I've heard bad stuff about this guy:thumbdown And really thought he was out of buisness> Too bad he isn't:mad: I am hoping your precious pup is going to stay healthy.

drabinowitz43 05-18-2009 03:57 PM

All your Yorkies are adorable and look very Yorkie to me. You are a great photographer, I could never get them to look right at the camera like that, and at the same time! Don't feel bad about the hair. Your little one is Cousin It compared to Sadie. She is over one and has needed like one haircut. I look at the bright side -- fewer grooming bills. Good luck with your baby!

pawever Yorkie 05-18-2009 04:26 PM

Thank you everyone!!!
Everyone's very kind in YT:love-hug3
Is there anyway we can write a petition in YT and email it to OPRAH to investigate Jeff Dane?

If you just look at his website, he looks and sounds like most caring breeder ever! He even has letters from his clients, can they be fake?

There must be some way to put words out to warn people who don't know how to differentiate btw good & bad breeder like I was.
I read stories about yorkie moms who lost their babies because of person like jeff, I couldn't help but cry :cry8: So many heartaches...

That's why it's so important to research a breeder thoroughly before getting a puppy. A simple Google search would have revealed all kinds of complaints about Jeff Dane.

Here's another one I just found:

Jeff Dane Complaints - Terrible experience

You were doing what your thought was good, you had heard he was a good breeder and went on referrals. Try not to feel badly, but now that you do know you can tell anyone and everyone you know to steer clear of Jeff Dane and his Brother (can't think of his name). You have your puppy now, there isn't anything that you can do to change it so its time to enjoy and just do everything possible to take the best care possible. I really think that it is rare to find people on here that didn't make the mistake of not knowing what a good breeder meant, and what to look for before they found this site. I know that I didn't, and I made the mistake 2x! Will never make it again though.

As far as whether your pup might be a mix, I suppose it's possible that the papers were filled incorrectly, CKC isn't known for making sure things are on the up and up. But, even so it is still your new baby and if you have bonded already it doesn't matter if his hair won't grow as long or if he doesn't look like you expected, you'll love him just the same. I hope that everything goes well for you healthwise with him.

Now that you do have your yorkie though, soon you will want another and you will know what to look for. There are some reputable breeders in NY, their prices might be higher but the pups are worth it.

When I was first looking for a yorkie, I found some on yorkiepup.com I called him, questioned him about the differences in prices. He basically said that the ugly ones sell cheaper then the pretty ones, and the smallest ones for even more. I didn't like the way he classified them so I didn't go any further then those questions. And then I read posts on here about him and he is just a bad bad puppy miller. He also puts his used up breeders on his page as "rescues" as is sales, they look horrible and so sad.

:aimeeyorkWow, just read your post and man does it bring back memories. I also bought a puppy from yorkiepups.com and I wish the only problem I had with my baby was hair. Not only did we also recieve our pup and were shocked by what we saw when we picked him up at the airport he was so ill that he couldnt walk for the first three days that we had him. So on top of the astronomical price we paid for him, we incured just as much in vet bills to get him healthy. No regrets though, we feel as though we saved his life and wouldnt take any amount for him in the world. Anyways our little Ryle also looked like a skinned rat when we got him. But with proper nutrition and a little patience (about 3 mths) and lots of TLC your pups hair will grow in nice and full I am sure. Dont feel bad about not checking out Jeff Dane, as I didnt either. I just guess I never thought anyone could be so cruel to innocent animals. But the upside to it all is that is how I found this wonderful site. I was always googling some problem that we had with Ryle and I always was directed to this site, it has been a godsend. There are so many experienced and helpful people here. I am sure you will find that out. I hope you pup is doing well. He looks so much like my Ryle, they are probly related somewhere down the line.

I'm so glad your fur baby is with you---sounds like you rescued your little love from puppy hell! Don't feel bad--you saved a life and are providing love to your little fur baby.

Thank you for making me feel better:)
I already had 3 yorkies when I got CsiCsu and I had really bad experience with the last breeder(I got Chewy from) from NYC. It's just that yorkies are really over priced(even apartment breeders are asking min$1000)!!! That's why I thought it would be better to get puppy from other state and I came across Jeff's name couple of times and gave his website a try.
He website looked nice and yes, he even had rescue page which I though really nice of him!!! At first CsiCsu was $4800 and $3200 then $2800 and finally easter sale for $1300(he said because of his age/old@5month???)
When I wanted to buy him, Jeff raised his price back to $3200 and told me that his puppies are in such demands which influence the price. Supposedly, there were couple of people visited him to see CsiCsu when I called him... He said that if I purchase puppy right away, he'll keep the price @$1300 and we bought into it...:( I should have known!!!
Of course,I love CsiCsu no matter what, it's just that he seems to be always cold because of his thin coat...
I'll most definitely warn everyone I meet at doggy park, pet shop...etc not to purchase puppies from Jeff's website.
PS.. I'll post a thread about Chewy'e story later...
Thank you
