Dry Skin? Today I was looking at Bia's hair and I noticed she is flakey everywhere. She doesn't scratch often so I don't think it itches her and I harley see the flakes in her hair, does anyone know why her skin looks like this? I use to put Conditioning spray on her after a bath but I stopped because she looked like a grease ball after, so I didn't think she needed it, seeing as her hair rarely gets tangled and I hate the greasy look! Should I go back to using it? I also give her a bath once a week because I can't take the smell when she plays in the dirt and grass after awhile. I was told by my vet to bathe once a month, but I just can't. So could it be I bathe her to much? Any advise would be helpfull, Thanks! |
bathing once a week isn't bad. we now go once a week - 10 days. what kind of food is your furbaby on? that may have a lot to do with it. Rebel has started getting flakes and he gets a bath once every 2 weeks. i'm thinking of switching his food or possibly using Missing Link...which is sprinkled on their food. It's great for the skin and coat. detangling sprays are great but what kind are you using? I use Calming Aromatherapi Spritzer that is made from Doggie Spa. I use it liberally and they do not look greasy at all. Also when you bathe, do you use conditioner? this could eliminate how much detangling spray you use. |
My Hallie had really bad dry skin too! She was very flakey but didn't scratch a lot. I had a groomer tell me to mix some flaxseed oil into her food (a very small amount) which I did before I changed her food. About a week after her food was changed I noticed a huge improvement! Now she has no flakes and looks great! |
Ok..where do you get flax seed oil-- is it liquid or powder? |
I found it here in the health food section of the supermarket. It is liquid and usually in the fridge section. |
Thank you for the info! How much do you use? My baby is 4.8 lbs. |
Hallie is 4.5 pounds so I would imagine it would be the same. I literally took only a few drops (maybe 1/4 tspn) and mixed it in with her dry food. My concern was that it would upset her belly or give her diahrrea but it didn't. I hope this works for you and for your baby! |
