Family clones dog |
WOW:eek: |
wow is is right |
Holy smokes that's a lot of money. Think of all the rescue dogs they could have helped. |
Crazy! My husband said he loves our Biggie so much that if we had and extra 150,000 he would clone Biggie. I love Biggie soooo much, but I am not sure I feel comfortable with Cloning. Sounds like the clone might not look the same or even have the same personality. |
Wow that's a whole lot of money! I admit I don't know much about cloning, but I would think this dog would also develop cancer. Why and how could someone knowingly put an animal through that? I think it's selfish. |
wow, so it is true,e money can buy happiness... if i was very rich and of course after donating lots of money to animal shelters like the ottos, i too would clone mickey and this time, i won't make the same mistakes as i did when i was 9 y/o but i mean a gal can only dream right?? |
I saw that,,,, I just don't know what to think about it! |
When he crosses his front legs over each other while lying down, that's when we'll know he's the same," said Ed Otto. this statement made me laugh... cause Ive had 2 labs and they both crossed thier front legs over each other while laying down AND my toy poodle does it too. :) I love my animals very much however I wouldnt have them cloned, it just doesnt seem right to me at all and how does anyone know what the true outcome would be. Off topic.. are labs more prone to cancer than other dogs? Does anyone know?? Just seems like any person I know who has a lab or a lab mix they have died or are now dying of cancer. |

hmmm....... pet cemetery anyone? |
OMG< :eek:A yellow Lab is a yellow Lab!!! For heavens sake think of all the homeless animals and starving people they could've helped!! That's what happens when you have too much $$ and you don't know what to do with it all!! Absolutly insane!! I LOVE Baron soo much But, when he passes away, I'm not paying $$ to bring him back!! That's too much like playing God and i'll let him do his own job!!:mad: |
Interesting. I think it's sad. Like someone else said, think of how many rescue dogs they could have helped. It's sad that there are some people who don't even have enough money to feed themselves or their kids and they spend that kind of money on that. To each it's own. I just don't think that amount of money should be spent on something like this. It's their money and they are entitled to do what they please. Just my opinion. (Hope no one get's all pissy with me.. There's been a lot of that lately.) |
[ We have had two labs, one a yellow that was healthy until he passed away at the age of 14 when his stomach turned. second a black lab that lived until 12.5 and she had diabetes for 9 years but not sign of cancer in both. We now have a chocolate lab that is 5 years old and still acting like a puppy. |
:eyeballpc People are blessed with wealth and could do something good with it yet they waste it... I have a son with cancer - they could have donated $155,000 to pedatric cancer research and made a REAL difference in science... and then they could/should have adopted a lab puppy from a shelter - we all know there are plenty of full-breed labs waiting for their 'fur'ever home... They should be ashamed to admit they cloned a dog when there are bigger things going on around them:thumbdown |

I saw that on the news this morning... It isn't like it would be the same dog... just look like it. It may have some of the same temperments but it isn't the same dog. Like someone else said they could have given that money to research or heck they could have paid off all of our credit card debt and student loan debt with that lol |
Wow...some of your reactions are way over the top. Albeit, Mr and Mrs Otto's actions are over the top, too, IMO. Still, it makes me wonder if some of you actually read the entire article. Quote:

On the surface, it appears to me that these are responsible pet owners and how they spend their money is no one elses business. Maybe its not a decision that most of us would make, but we shouldn't begrudge them for making this decision and having the means to make it happen. And to the person who made the "a yellow lab is a yellow lab" comment. Do you feel the same way about yorkies? Afterall, there all just dogs. |
We are each entitled to our own opinions. Not everyone will agree with eachother. That's what makes us all unique. :) They are entitled to spend their money however they would like, just like we are entitled to having our opinions and our discussions on how we feel about their decision. :) |
WE are all entitled to our own opinions, and not all of us will agree , that needs to be respected, not put down. I would love that much money to splurge on something that ridiculous. I wonder if the family has any children? Their animals are their life, and that's why they chose to do that... If i were them, I'd put it to good use and donate $$$ to shelters all over the country, saving millions of lives. |
:eek::eek: Does wealth makes people go nuts? |
I for one am not going to judge these people. It's their money, and whose to say if I lost one of my dogs and HAD that kinda coin that I wouldn't spend it to bring them back, even if it was just a look-alike. They obviously loved that animal, just as we all love ours. |
I agree, to each their own, but I don't think I could spend it. :) |
Everybody has their own opinions and i respect everyones opinion but my opinion is.....They got more money than they have brains!:lol tears |
I look at it this way.... out of my paychecks I save some spend some donate some... I don't just save and donate, I also spend. and some times on things i dont NEED. How many times have people said you spent too much on your yorkie???? I spent 950 which was in my budget. I have had some tell me it was a good deal and some tell me that it was crazyy!!!!! obviously these people do the same. Work save donate and spend. and they spent the money that was in their budget. Im not like pro cloning or anything, I feel like that is "playing god" and a lil creepy. but as far as the money issue goes that is where i stand :) |
Money can't buy Happiness or Brains! You all make alot of good points, I personally don't "Judge" anyone, it's their Money, their business etc., but IMO too bad money can't buy you Happiness or a Brain? I watched it on TV. when the Story first came out, the only difference I see between them and some one else is "Money" to me they still fall into the same category as "Animal Horders", the couple also have many other Dogs! Without getting into too many details, I think the whole idea sounds SICK! The fact that they paid that much money is SICK! Yeah, I LOVE all 3 of my Dogs too, but if something happened to them, I would let them go. Grow-up and be Mature and accept their passing. |
