Trimmed the ear hair and I dont like it I trimmed the tip of her ear, and I did a really good job. Its not choppy, and its very even but I dont like it. I like her better before when she had the hairy ears. :( I am hoping I will like it when I get used to it. How long does it take for that to grow longer again? It wasnt very long to begin with. |
Hi Shana. I think its great that you trimmed Chloe's ears and I'm sure that it will grow on you. I didn't like it the first time either. It does grow back pretty fast though. I think I heard that Yorkie hair grows about a half inch a month or so. Depending on diet and so forth. :):) |

I have trimmed Daisy's ears and now that it is growing out again I am putting off cutting them. It looks so cute but I remember how much I liked her ears trimmed too. They are just so sweet no matter what you do :p |
I had "Trimmers remorse" after I cut Gracie's ears (hair :)) But now I love it....it will grow out in no time |
I agree, when I do my guys, it looks strange, but after a little bit, I think it is cute, after a couple of days that naked look goes away. |
Well I am glad to hear that. Its funny becaues I kept thinking she looked different from alll the pics of other yorkies that I see and I couldnt put my finger on it. Then I realized her ears were so fuzzy! :D But I am actually super proud now because I think I did a kick-butt job. When my friend took her yorkie to the groomer, the groomer did a really choppy job on the tips of the ears which drove me crazy! I am sorta a perfectionist when it comes to hair. I spent about 30 minutes making sure CHloe's ears were even and perfect. This is why I cant bare the thought of taking chloe to the groomer. My friends yorkie is the calmest dog in the world- and will let you cut, pluck, brush, pull and basicaly do whatever to it without moving a muscle. SO if a groomer gives THAT dog a choppy cut I can only imagine what they would do to my wild restless CHloe. I am so excited that I have just about mastered all the grooming for CHloe( I refuse to do the anal gland thing though :D ). |

I think I read somewhere that there is a reason for the gland thing, it is bad odor - or something like that. Anyway, I just remember when I read it I thought I didn't have to worry about that. I am pretty happy teaching myself grooming, too. Now I have a lot to practice on. I have always cut and colored my boys hair (14 and 17 now). I didn't like how the hair stylist or barbers cut their hair either, I thought I couldn't do worse than them - and I was right! No telling how much money I have saved over the years. Esp. my 14 had gold tips and shaved sides for a couple of years. |
Uneven but at least they stand up I trimmed my sweetie's ears too but I did a crummy job. I need new scissors. These aren't sharp enough and I can't find any locally that are both sharp and have round tips. I'll have to order some. Any ideas of a good source? Anyway, I trimmed her ears because I heard they might not stand up with the weight of the hair on them. She was 14 weeks old and her ears were still down. When I trimmed them, they came about 1/2 way up immediately. By the next morning they were completely up, so I accomplished what I was after. Now that've grown out a little, the unevenness I couldn't clean up with the dull scissors is softening. I'm looking forward to getting new scissors. |
I don't use scissors at all (they will never be that still for me). I use a little personal shaver, battery operated is much easier. I shave from about 1/2 way up, try not to cut the hair below the line and it will eventually fall down pretty. I also shave the chests of the ones who get dirty on their bellies and around their butthole (sorry). Be careful not to nick them. The personal shavers have tinier blades and will not catch their ears. I shave one, Bronx, whole body and leave his head and legs long. He is very wild, messy and hates to be brushed. I use the larger shaver to shave his body area. Look for quiet ones if possible. Having them groomed is $22 each-here. So I feel like I can spend a little money on supplies not to pay that fee, now x 7! :eek: |
ME too! At first when they tipped Roxy ears, I hated it and it felt so weird to touch, but after a few days she looked so cute - Well Groomed, I thought, like a lady! |
Help me out here, do you mean the inside of their ears? I groom mine, as well, but I haven't done anything to their ears. I'm going to try it, I have one of those little shavers too. Wish me luck! :thumbup: |
