| Yorkies outside? Are they really alot of YTers who don't let their dogs outside? Am I the only one that thinks that is cruel? . I know my dog trainer and Victoria from "its me or the dog", whose book I am reading, would both consider that cruel. |

| It's not that I don't let my dog outside , I just wont let her out without me. She goes for walks and with us all the time. I just wont open the backdoor and say "go on" . Even though our backyard is fenced ,to much can happen with a small dog. She is only 2.5 lbs. and can look appetizing to a bigger animal.

| Mine go out all the time, but never alone. I take them for walks, and I let them run around in the backyard. I also take them to the park for walks. They don't like going out if it's raining, so they are both trained for outdoors and pee pads. We get lots of snow here, and there are times when the weather is just too bad for them to go out until my hubby can get out there and use the snowblower.

| I never let mine go out without me either. I am too worried about hawks and other predators. Its just that I took some harsh criticism on another thread for expressing my opinion that dogs should be aloud to go outside from someone who only lets her dogs outside "when she carries them to the mailbox." I started thinking maybe YT is not the place for me if that is how protective the majority of people are on here. I try to be respectful that we all have our differences, but I cannot help feeling sorry for a dog who cannot experience new smells and run free! |

| My yorky loves to be outside in the sunshine. However, he HATES getting his feet wet. If it is raining outside, forget it! He is really funny when it rains. Looks at me like I should stop the rain for him!! HA! |

| My 3 aren't aloud out alone either...Hawks, coyotes, owls, no way !!! It justs takes a second when a predator sneaks up on them (and they do !) and you will hear them cry as a predator takes them away, and it happens !!!!!!!!!!!

| Well here the exhange that prompted me to write this thread and almost write off YT Originally Posted by Cocoabeaner Wow, I do not want to criticize as we all have our own way of doing things and I can see how much you love your Yorkie. I just cannot imagine a dog not being allowed to go outside for exercise, walking to discover new smells and the pure joy they get from running full speed. You are obviosly very caring about your dog's health. Exercise is as important or more important to health than worrying about the chemicals in comfortis. Well, way to go for doing what you didn't want to do. I have automatic updates from my e-mail sent to my BlackBerry & I read this reply this morning while waiting on my mom. I'll just put it simple, I was pissed. Lilly gets enough exercise running around in my house playing with her toys and with my boyfriend & I. Where I live, I'm not comfortable with taking her out, I wouldn't even begin to let her step foot in my yard. When we lived at the apartment we lived at before, I'd take her out every now and then but not a lot. That's all beside the point though, I shouldn't have to explain myself to you and I feel really stupid for even beginning to. She's MY babygirl, let me take care of her how I wish to. It's not like I deprive her of exercise. It's also not like I started this thread asking if everyone thought Lilly got enough exercise or if everyone thought I should be taking her outside. I don't right now and I'm not going to start anytime soon. In my opinion, if you can't answer the question I initially asked then just hit that little X in the corner and go about your merry little way. DON'T judge me and preach to me about something I didn't even ask about. Go "try to not criticize" someone else. __________________ lovin' my lillybug SANTA PAWS IS COMIN' TO TOWN 12-01-2008, 03:28 PM #23 Cocoabeaner Senior Yorkie Talker Join Date: Jun 2008 Location: Middletown, ct. If we all had the exact same opinion than Yorkie Talk would not be very interesting or valuable 12-01-2008, 06:00 PM #24 emilyann Lovin' my Lillybug♥ Donating Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Kentucky Posts: 1,611 Quote: Originally Posted by Cocoabeaner Wow, that's quite a reply. When I need help on whether or not I should let my dog outside, I'll make sure to specify that in the post and keep you in mind. Have a great day! __________________ lovin' my lillybug SANTA PAWS IS COMIN' TO TOWN |

| I have a suggestion....let's just move on. Everybody has different opinions. If someone doesn't like an answer or reply just go to another thread. Bonnie, I hope you don't leave YT. Stay around and just ignore the criticism.

| Personally, I let both of mine outside to potty and to just run free in my fenced in backyard. However, I completely understand why many people don't let theirs outside. I really don't think it is our place to judge those people, especially without knowing their reasons. I think as long as their dogs are being taken care of and loved, that's all that matters. That said, I also don't think you should be dragging that "other" thread into this one. It is fine that you started this new thread to discuss how other people handle the outside but do not bring Emily into this. She is a very nice girl that loves her dog and she does not deserve to have her feelings hurt over a difference of opinions!
