Neutering an Adult Male I have heard stories that when neutering an adult male that sometimes they will still mark thier territory. I was wondering if anyone has experianced this? If so what age was he neutered and had he previosly been used for breeding? Thanks Sarah |
Neutering and some training can get any male dog to stop marking... even if bred before, once or many times. Consistence is the key to success |
I got Cooper when he was 4 months old, per the breeders practice. He was already marking, since he had been around adult intact males. I had him neutered around 7 months and we still have issues of him marking at 5 years old :( I think it all depends on the particular dog. We didn't neuter Baron until he was almost a year old (because of his size) and he never marks. He even pees squatting most of the time. I do think this is something that depends on the dog, and I'm sure training can influence the behavior though. |
Otis was neutered at 7months, Oliver was neutered at 5 months and they both mark!! I'm lost as to how to stop them. They can go for awhile and not do it, then they start up again. I believe Otis learned from my friends dog, because they were around each other so much when I first brought Otis home. Well when we got Oliver, he learned it from his brother. If anyone has suggestions....I'm all ears. |
When they do it outside it does not bother me it is the inside marking that is a killer. Buddy has wee wee wraps to save the furniture, but I wish he could just be free to run around the house without a "diaper" |
Sunnie and Beamer were nuetered at the same time (Beamer was 8 months, Sunnie was 4 yrs. Sunnie was marking prior to nuetering. Beamer has never marked. Sunnie has since quit marking.. but it took about 6 months. |
Oops.. double posted |
I had a Chi who was neutered at five months and he never marked in his life. My Bichon wasn't neutered until he was a year old, after he learned to mark, and he still will mark if I don't watch him. Every dog is different, but early neutering seems to be the best thing. |
