how old was your puppy when you got them I know that the recommened age is 12 weeks but I also see a lot of people getting thier puppies younger. I was just wondering their age and how they did, and if you think they would have done better if you had waited? |
I got Layla at 12 weeks. Her breeder insisted either 12 weeks or 2 lbs and Layla came home at 1.9 lbs. Any younger or smaller and I would have been way too nervous.. they were the LONGEST 12 weeks but i'm so glad we waited. |
I got Teddy when he was 8 weeks and he was sick!! I spent 9 weeks making weekly trips to the vet and force feeding him every 2 hours. My new little girl will be 12 weeks when I pick her up in 17 days. I would not get another one under 12 weeks again. |
I would definitely recommend at least 12 weeks. Cooper's breeder kept him until he was 4 months old, my only issue with him was potty training (because she didn't!!!) I got Baron when he was 12 weeks and he was PERFECT at that age (strong & healthy, but still young enough to potty train easily!). |
I got Wylie at 12 weeks. I got Marcel at 16 weeks (and SO glad I waited bc he was only 1.4 lbs). |
I got Zeus at 12 weeks. Phoebe was 7 months when I got her. Her breeder wanted to keep her, but she was too small for breeding. |
Thanks everyone for sharing please keep posting I like reading your stories and I think it will help new comers |
Suzi was 9 weeks when I brought her home. I did not know that this was too young. She was 3.5 lbs. I was lucky that she was in perfect health. Now that I know better, I would not get anther until at least 12 weeks . :aimeeyork |
Generally was 6 weeks old and his mother had already weaned all of the pups. The older sister was actually nursing them. He was eating dry food the day we got him home, he would not eat anything else. He is now 9 months old and a very healthy 8-9 pounds and is a very strong pup. He has not had a bad vet report and he was the runt of the litter and just about 1-2 pounds or so when we got him. |
Ramsey 10 weeks.... Reese 15 weeks... Reggie 12 weeks... |
I got Bailey at 9 weeks - and have had no problems. Good luck! |
yo-yo was 9 weeks old and no problems so far (besides biting). Next time I'll wait til they are 12 weeks. |
Abby was 10 weeks and weighed 1.5 lbs. I've never had a problem with her at all. *knock on wood* |
I got Rudy when he was 8 weeks old and weighed 4 lbs. ( I know, he was a big boy then and he's still a big boy Yorkie. :D) I got Lucky when he was 2 years old, almost 3. ;) (He was a Rescue.) |
I got my Teddy at 12 weeks! He is such an adorable little dog. I miss his puppy days! He was 1.6 lbs |
We got Copper at 10 1/2 weeks only because he was starting to be picked on a little by a littermate. That same littermate was also picking on his super tiny sister. We went to look at him and took him home the same day. He was so little for the fist few months that I was a nervous wreck over everthing. He has ajusted fine. I would definately have waited till 12 weeks if it werent for the "bully pup." haha The breeder held on to his little sister till she was atleast 14 weeks. |
I got Otis at ALMOST 8 weeks! This was before I knew what I know now. Luckily, he was healthy and did just fine. He's a bigger boy too. I got ollie at 12 weeks and he was pretty big too. |
I have a 9 1/2 wk old and she is not eating much she is 7.8oz and I have taken her to the vet and he said she is great I am just worring to much! I would have waited if I knew then what I know now we got her at 7wk. |
Tetley's breeder doesn't let her pups go before 14 weeks, so that's how old he was when I got to bring him home. It was the best Christmas ever  |
My puppy was a few days from being 8 weeks. My breeder called me and said that the pups vet said that she was all clear to come to her new home due to the fact that she was doing so well. Other breeders that I was considering purchasing from did tell me I would have to wait 12 weeks but most said just 8. |
6 weeks and it has been fine....I think we have bonded more now rather than waiting |
Elvis was right at 13 weeks old and he weighed 2 lbs 6 oz. Today he weighs around 5 lbs at 8 months old. He is very healthy too. |
I got Cali at 9 weeks 1 lb and she went hypoglycemic within 2 days is spite of my trying to avoid it and had many illnesses. I got Pixie at 13 months and Roxie at 4 months. No problems |
Gracie was 8 weeks, Holly was 12 weeks. Gracie was much easier to potty train but had biting issues when she was tiny. Holly did not have any biting problems at all but potty training has been a huge challenge. If I had it to do over again, I think I might opt for 10 weeks. |

I got Oscar at 12 weeks. He was a big boy ... right at 3 lbs. Still, I think I would have been too nervous to get him any earlier. Plus, the breeder had time to socialize him well, and did a fantastic job ... he was routinely exposed to other animals, adults, noisy kids, and she was able to introduce him to the "real world" in general before letting him go. I swear a bomb could go off right next to him, and he wouldn't flinch. Not an ounce of fear in his little body. |
I got Captain Jack at 7 weeks, but he didn't come from a breeder(he was a "happy accident") and he was much better off with me. The lady he came from didn't know anything about puppies so at 7 weeks he was covered in fleas and had never been treated for worms! He has been a bit of a biter!:D Junie B came to us at 14 weeks... it seems to be taking her a little longer to bond with us, but I'm not sure if that is because of her age or if it is because she is too busy playing with Captain Jack! Captain Jack knew that I was his new mommy the first day, Junie B has been with us for a week and is just now getting adjusted. I think that 10-12 weeks would probably be a happy medium! |
Lets see: Rusty was 8 weeks Spicey was 16 weeks Mandy was 8 weeks Krissy was 12 weeks Teddy was 10 weeks Chelsey was born to Mandy Kayla was born to Krissy Darla was 12 weeks Spanky was 7 months |
Nathan was only 3 days old when I rescued him , my others were from 1 to 3 years old . Recently , I rescued a 5 years old for a friend . |
OOOHHHHH!!! I forgot to add this..... Captain Jack never barks....Junie barks all the time!! I don't know if that is because he didn't have time to properly socialize with his littermates or if he's just not a barker! |
