Help. I need some advice. I have had my yorkie for one week now. I do 100% of her care. I literally do everything. I take her out, play with her, feed her, brush her, crate train her, potty train her...everything. Heres the problem: When anyone else in the house is around her she gets really excited. She licks their face, jumps around, and gets really playful. This includes my son and husband. But she won't do any of these things with me. When she sees them, she runs up to them and looks really happy. She will play with a toy with me, but not excitedly play with me like she does them. She pulls on the toy, licks their face and ears, jumps around. With me, she plays with the toy but pretty much ignores me. I know this sounds like jealousy, because it is. I feel sad. I have never been mean to her. Just normal NO's when she squats in the house or starts chewing on something she's not supposed to. I also praise her a lot too when she does things good. I really don't get why she refuses to show me any affection. Please I really need some advice. |
She actually is showing you respect by not jumping all over you and in your face. I know that seems "backward," but she jumps all over people, licks them, etc because she is confused about her place in the pack with regards to them. Start implementing rules for everyone to follow, like she must be sitting to get attention, everyone needs to have a hand in her care, etc. Consider yourself lucky...a lot of people whose dogs go koo koo over them have dogs that suffer from severe separation anxiety when their owners are gone...not a good thing either!!!! |
It may also be that she likes men!! My female dogs go gaga over their daddy and my male dogs go crazy when I come home and hardly notice when my hubbie does!! She loves you but just shows it differently!! |
aww i went thru the exact same thing you did. i was like wth she should love MEEEE more than anyone else i am her provider but she does love me and shows it in a different way thats all. im the alpha girly around here not her. |

This sure sounds like a post I read not long ago. Your dog sees you all the time and she does love you. It's easy for them to get real excited when there is someone else around that they don't see as much. Don't worry about this. They are all like this. ;) |
