| My dogs are driving me crazy...not sleeping and restless at night! I have 3 dogs...one always sleeps in bed with me, one of the others almost always does, and the other rarely. However the two that do are really disrupting my sleep (I am a very light sleeper). They toss and turn, scratch and bite themselves, jump down from the bed to get a drink, or demand to go out in the middle of the night (doesnt happen too often). When they jump down they cant get back up...bed is too high...tried the portable steps, they wouldnt use them. If I dont pick them up they bark till I do. I am going crazy! I cant let them roam the house at night either, because they all are prone to accidents if they do. I really like having them sleep with me but am thinking that I might need to stop so that I can get some sleep. Are all dogs restless like this at night? Any suggestions for how I can train them to use their own beds if I choose to do that? I know it will be hard but it is even possible now after years of sleeping with me? Id love to keep them in my bed if they could be calmer but maybe it isnt in a dogs nature.. Any advice? Thanks |

I Love Thor Donating Member | Have you tried crate training them at night? Your sleep is important. This might help all of you! |

| Wow...I don't know what I would do if mine was restless....I got home really late on Saturday nite and we slept in until 10:10am on Sunday. I actually had to wake Teddi up. She sleeps until I am ready to get up. I think I would be so frustrated if she kept me up all nite. Good luck...hopefully someone will have some suggestions for you.

| Anyone else with this issue? I think its a little late for the crates but wish I would have done that early on. My dogs are 10, 7 and 3 so it might be too hard to make that transition now. I do think part of the issue with the Yorkie is her digestive problems...it seems like her stomach is always rumbling at night. I know this is silly, but I watch a show called Its Me or My Dog, and the trainer on there dealt with this issue by just getting the dog their own beds and being persistant with putting them back in it. (kind of like the Nanny who deals with the kids with sleeping problems)They had to deal with a sleepless night, but thats all it took for the dogs to get used to sleeping in their own bed. Of course, thats tv and not sure it that would really happen, irl. |

| Is what I do is bring Lily in bed and she goes to sleep rate away, if I want he up there then I leave her. If not I go to bed about 10 min. early and we all get in bed but I stay up till she is really sleeping then I put her in her bed. It has always worked for us. With my new little guy I am trying crate training at night but I am not sure how it will end up because I like my babies in bed with me most of the time.

| The yorkie who is having digestive problems...Is her tummy rumbling because she doesn't eat before bed or because she has digestive problems. If it is gas or digestive problems, she may benefit from the use of probiotics. This might be a good idea for her and you if it will help keep her tummy from feeling bad, in turn letting her sleep through the night.

| Exercise is the answer. A long walk in evening. Sampson will be restless all night if he hasn't gotten enough activity to tire him out. It takes a lot to tire out some of these Yorkies. Daisy sleeps great without much exercise. Some dogs just are just high energy. Also, I use an upholstered cube as a step next to the bed for them to let themselves up and down. I refuse to pick them up and put them down off the bed all night long.

| My dogs are driving me crazy...not sleeping and restless at night! Our eldest dog, Barney, could no longer jump off the bed safely and he became restless as he got older. So, we built him a ramp up to the bed and put a doggie bed on the floor for him. The ramp has been a life saver. Also, we close the bedroom door so they do not roam thru the house during the night. We love having them sleep with us. |
