puppie without a coat...smooth coated with wisps....HELP
 
I have a litter that is 8 wks old as of this week, 2 of my puppies are beautifully coated, one however is smooth blk and tan with just little wisps of hair sticking out here and there. They were just vet checked and the vet says they're all healthy....and really active too. But I'm concerned about the little females coat. Has anyone else ever had this ?

Are they purebred? Maybe one of the great-great-great grande yorkies got bred with a Chinese Crested (see pics in link below)?

Id sure love to see some pics. We might be able to help you a bit better.

Roxy was born like that, and thats why nobody wanted her :( but it was because she had a minor staff infection. I dont know if it could be something like that, theyd have to take blood work. But thats why she had no hair in a lot of places including her legs and ears... But once the staff infection was gone, in a few weeks her hair started to grow. It was just thin when I first got her... But now its full and beautiful, you'd never even know!

They will most likely grow up to have a shorter, wirey coat that doesn't grow well. I've seen several yorkies with that type of coat. In fact, my yorkie has a coarser coat that doesn't grow very well. We're working on it though

My SIL has a tiny baby (5 months old) That had a yeast infection on her skin and her hair has been falling out, the places that are growing back are smooth and soft like a newborn. Her friend shaves hers down really close every summer and when it grows back it comes in straight and soft too but does get long and silky when it grows in.

My Rex has a very thin coat, too.
 
My Rex was half the size of his litter-mates and had little hair as a pup. He finally did grow to about 7 pounds, but still has very thin hair. He's five now. The silver tuft he had on top of his hair is now replaced with short, smooth copper hair. His little underside is bare skin.
