CKC or AKC What are the differences between AKC and CKC? I've been looking for Yorkies in my area lately and noticed that they say CKC not AKC  And also how old should the puppy be before leaving to come home with you? I thought they should be at least 10wks but am seeing 8wks?? |
I am not really sure about the CKC to AKC. But puppies should be 10 to 12 weeks old before you bring them home. The later the better for them. They learn so much from there littermates and there mother during this time. Welcome to YT!!! |
The general agreed upon age for pups to be placed is 12 weeks. And yes, sadly you see them in the paper here all the time for 8 and even 6 weeks. AKC is an older, more well known and respected registry. The confirmation shows that you see on TV are AKC sponsored. CKC is a different registry. Their rules are not as strict and you have alot of unethical puppy millers and people who have been in trouble w/ AKC that register their dogs there and continue to breed. That is NOT to say that CKC dogs are any lesser the pooch. You will have good and bad breeders in either registry. You just have to pay close attention to the breeder you are interested in and make sure they are doing things by the book. :) |
CKC as in Canadian Kennel Club I believe is okay, from what I heard. But CKC as in Continental Kennel Club receives a lot of heat because they had "open registration". This is where they would allow owners & breeders to register their dogs/puppies as "pure" breed with front and side pic and two witness signatures. AKC has been around longer and all in all is a more reputable registry. So, IMO AKC, all the way and pups should not leave their moms until they are 12 weeks of age. Good luck! :p |
AKC is generally perceived as being better- but just because a dog is AKC doesn't mean that it'll be perfectly healthy. I personally have a CKC dog and an AKC dog. |

In fact it is easier to have a dog from another country registered with akc and much harder with ckc the canadian kennel club.. pooh's mum |

So to say it is non-existent is not a very good way to say things, that is if you are not a predjudice person, or just ingnorant in the world of show dogs. In fact many even want to do shows in England also. I happen to know lots of breeders that go to canada from the states and from the states to canada for show..Well maybe just the good big show breeders, not sure about that part.. but to say no-existent is almost an insult in the breeding world. When we are talking show yorkies... pooh's mum |
