No I don't think you were rude. I wish I would do it. I ususally just let them hold her and feel very mad about it.

No you did the right thing...I often do not let people I know hold Bruce if I do not like the way they handle him, and never a stranger. You I think handled this well because I have actually had to become belligerant with a few people because there are apparantly numerous people out there that "don't get it." I have these neighbors that would always let there kids out to try an maul my poor little baby when ever they would see us walking. I would tell them they were to little to hold him but they would try and snatch him up before I could, always in our way, always trampling my sweetie, poking him, trying to hold him, etc. I talked to their mother but to no avail so...My new strategy if I cannot get a hold on him before they come outside is to poke them back, yell right in their ears and kick at them too. This seems to be working!

I'm very selective with people petting and holding my pup. For petting I could say no to one person and yes the next minute, depending on the vibe I get from them, and for holding...only family and close friends. People who ask irritate my husband... he says it's not like some stranger would come over and ask hold your baby or take your child for a walk. Oh yeah hey I don't know you but here take my baby no problem. It's an invasion of privacy people just don't get it yet.

Forgot to add... I don't care if people think I'm mean or a snob... he's my baby and I'd never forgive myself if I was careless and something happened. I'm equally protective of my skin kids too!

I totally know what you mean about crazy people. Matise is 3 lbs. on a full tummy and I have him in full coat so people are always screaming -literally- and going crazy wanting to hold him and pet him and the such and this scares him he's just a puppy-11 months old.- - And have you ever noticed it's the same thing with human babies too. People think they can just get up and put their faces up too your babies and hands on your baby. You don't know what they have been doing or when was the last time they washed their hands.- - Then there are the people are like thats a maltese right-duh- & I'm like uh no He's a Yorkie(the whole time thinking in my head Dumb**s). Then there are the ones who "know-it all" and are like "thats a teacup right?" And I'm like no he's a yorkie there is no such thing as a teacup anything. Anyway then those "no-it alls" then preceed to tell me that I should put him in a puppy cut because all that long hair is too hot for miami. and that I should make sure to use a harness and not a collar, and blah, blah, blah. I'm like I think that me and my vet(who happens to be my sister and is a breeder/handler of tri-color and red and white cocker spaniel show dogs) know what is best for Matise. I had a, retired showdog, tri-color cocker spaniel and people were always like that's a Dalmation right? First, she was a cocker and she had full show coat so I'm not really sure how she looked like a Dalmation? and once again I was saying no and thinking-Dumb*ss. People can be so Dumb!!

i would of said the same thing, i dont want any one holding my baby only family and my dear friend who also has a yorkie, just say they run off with her or drop her id have to kill them

Is there a full moon out? Because ALL thw waco's are out! What is wrong with people now. pleople are so disrespectfull to others what part of "you can pet but not hold" didn't she understand? There are a lot of people that belong on the short bus. You did what ever you had to do. No means no.

Next time someone pushes you like that - Say "SHE BITES" - Believe me...they back off everytime

I'm all for being nice - but you shouldn't have to be bombarded with someone INSISTING they hold your baby ...no matter how much she loves holding every one elses pets - Saying She Bites will stop that and save you from having to tell anyone off -

I should have said she bites but the problem was that I already told the woman she could PET Katie (not hold!!) and I would not have said she can pet her if she bit people. So the woman already knew that Katie was friendly (just shy). I would have looked like a liar. But next time I am going to say, "You can pet her while I hold her" or something to that effect.

Jennifer, no I wouldn't have dropped the f-bomb on the crazy lady but I wouldn't have let her hold my baby either. I've always been called over-protective and darn proud of it. Once when my daughter was about 3 we were at a park with our Schnauzer. Some random man came over and started saying something and I just said "Go on and leave us alone!!" Poor guy never knew what hit him. When it comes to my pups and my kids I don't give anyone any slack!!

I don't blame you! I HATE when people try to hold Tino and Bunny!!! It irks me sooo bad! I don't go around and pick up people's kids that I don't know! Why would someone think they can just pick up your d-o-g???
